1 gal Cabot 19200 Natural Wood Toned Deck and Siding Stain

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have been using Cabot stain for 10 years. The quality of their products are outstanding. I refuse to use any other brand.

I have seen a couple people stating the product peeled when they applied it to their brand new deck (this website and a couple others).. When you have a new deck built, you are supposed to let the wood weather 6-12 months before applying any kind product. Just a word of advice.

I used the "other" product that is heavily advertised and that has been around for years- water based - it is history in months. Cabot 3000 has lasted two full winters/summers of hot NC sun and wind borne salt moisture (300 feet from the salt water) and only now can use a re-do. I've read the complaints and they clearly did not follow their lumber provider's recommendation (and any carpenter or stain manufacturer): ALL lumber/plywood is saturated with moisture and must be left un-stained for minimum of 3 months - preferably 6 depending on month of installation and weather. And, I DO spray it to get coverage in between the planks - works fine.

I bought the Honey Teak in the Australian Timber Oil and it penetrated well into the logs. It is now 3 years later and it still looks fabulous. We did the brown treat deck as well in the same product. It has been 1.5 years and again it looks fabulous! The clean up with an oil is more difficult but it is with any oil based product. Buying Cabot in a solid for my home deck today and have no fears it will be the right product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] New house. I bought an unfinished alder wood front door. I actually bought 13 different stains in another brand. Then I found Cabot. Exactly the color I wanted. And we decided to use it on the porch ceiling bead board too. It faces west in Hot Texas sun and after a year it is still perfect. So glad I found it!

Arrived 3 days ahead of schedule but two gallons of stain were poorly packaged in a cardboard carton larger than the two cans with no internal packing that would prevent the cans from moving around inside the carton. Cans were dented in several places and carton had burst open on one of the sides. Could have been a huge disaster had the lids popped off during transit to destination.

To the person that says that this is not a stain and that it is a paint. I have been using the pacific redwood 3000 series for years. It will not clean up with water. It is oily and the cleanup I have to use is paint thinner not water. It says it on the can as well. For those that see that it is wearing off after a year like the person that sent his photos. Well, that was the first year on fresh cedar. Did you stir it? You have to stir it evertime you use it so the pigment comes up into the top of the product. The first year on fresh wood, well it soaks in dude. Try the second year, use a nice brush and you will see that it soaks in less because there is product in the wood from the first time on fresh wood. The second coat coat goes on easier. I do my deck every two years and boy does a gallon go a longer way on the next coat. I just spent 6 hours putting on the cabot on my deck and I still have a half a can. Anyhow these so called experts and their comments drives me up a wall. I also make hiking sticks and know oil stains from oil penetrating stains. Painting will dry in the summer at my house in California in an hour. My Cabot stain in the shade is still tacky after 36 hours sometimes. I live in a dry climate up in the mountains. Anyhow I like the stuff and it is nice to open a new can and use it on my deck and railings. I don't know if I would use something else. I don't know what could go over this stuff unless I let it sit for maybe 3 years and then use another penetrating oil.

Really bad product. I been on this trade 25 years, I own my own company. I use las year July 2024 and less than 1 year is really bad, peeling and turning white and flake. Not recommended. I call them first and explain all the process I did and they didn't help. They toll me that I have to to strip it ,sand it and oil it every year. That doesn't make sense instead of maintace. It was a big project. Now I have to re-do it out of my pocket .

I have applied the 19200 series for two years running, and here we are at the start of year 3 and my deck has failed for the 3rd time. Last year, I power washed, cleaned with deck wash, power washed as a rinse and allowed to fully dry for 3 days prior to applying the stain. Looked beautiful when I was finished!! But, beware the beauty vanished after one season. Peeling, flaking, fading. All the horizontal surfaces failed. Perhaps Cabots sales and marketing department is supported by repeat buyers. We'll, I'm off the hamster wheel. Caveat emptor!

Applied the Wooded Moss Semi-transparent stain and sealer. Wished I would have read reviews more carefully. After just 6 months the deck is peeling. Looked great until it was exposed to winter and in spring is terrible. DO NOT BUY CABOT!!! Their product does not work!!!
