Saw is absolutely amazing. Skilsaw continie to product the best circ saws on the market.
Great saw just like my dependable regular Skilsaw I've had for many years. Got this one to cut 4x4 and posts cleanly.
I'm using the saw to cut 9"x9" Timber in our barn to replace the original rotted posts. Saw has been great, with the exception of one vertical scarf cut I was making. During the vertical cut the motor started to "short out" as if the bushes or armature was bad (the elusive lightning in the motor) The saw cleared out after a bit so I'm hopeful it was debris that got into the motor due to the type of cut. Since that I have had no issues with the saw and it still plows threw the heavy Timber like a Pro.
This Worm Drive circular saw is very powerful and safe. I even use it to cut 6 in by 6 planks. Of course I do it in 3 passes and this thanks to the precision of the saw.
Great saw for what it's intended. That is heavy/thick wood. Definitely not best choice for cutting 2x4s as it's heavy. 1st job was ripping full 4x12s, cut clean and straight like butter, minimal effort with the carbide blade. Next job was cutting railroad ties, had to cut both sides buy again, minimal effort. Great saw for heavy lumber.
I was introduced to the old Skilsaw 825 over a decade ago and the owner kept it in amazing working condition and I decided I needed to purchase one. It took over a decade but I know it's money well spent on a tool that could last 2 lifetimes, a tool I can pass on to my son. I only wish that Skil offered a wider selection of branded blades for the 10-1/4 Sawsquatch but that would be the only negative side I've seen.
I'm not a timber framing professional, just a homeowner who lives on the water. Between the dock and boat lift, deck, patio, and landscaping I have a need to cut plenty of 4X lumber, and the SawSquatch makes short work of it. It's also capable of very accurate work, such as the 15 degree bevel I recently cut on some 10 x 4 timbers to build support bunks for my boat trailer. All in all, a great tool that makes formerly painful work seem like fun…
I bought this saw about a month ago and just used it for the first time last week. I had to make over 100 cuts through treated 4x4s and 2x4s for a project we were doing and bought the saw specifically to make all of those 4x4 cuts easily. It was a very big help in completing the project. The only negative issue was that the guard does not retract smoothly as you push it through wood when it is set at full depth to cut 4x4s.. You have to raise the back of the saw to get it to start to retract. It cuts great and I would give it 5 stars except for that small problem.I have been a building contractor for over 40 years and have used a lot of worm drive saws. I have a 7-1/4" worm drive Skilsaw that does not have this problem. I have only experienced it with my new 10-1/4" . Other than that, it is a great saw. It is light weight and easy to handle.
I like the saw, it has lots of power, but there is vibration in worm drive causing the blade to vibrate intermitantly and the magnesium base is weak and bends easily causing the cut to go out of sqaure. This is an important feature for me and what I use the saw for. A steel plate would be better for the base for a saw with this much power. Also creates a massive amount of airborn dust. Having a dust port that could be attached to a dust collector would be amazing.
Worked just like all the Skil worm drives we used for 50 years...TERRIFIC! Did just what it was supposed to and with the same efficiency we've come to expect. Great saw. If you're a bit apprehensive about it due to it's size...forget it. It was easy to handle and smoother than I expected. We were cutting 2-1/4" solid oak slabs with Live Edge to be fashioned into bar tops with waterfall ends. The saw & blade cut it like butter. So Nice.
