Easy to use on our composite deck. no scrubbing needed, no foul smell applying was easy , was affordable considering our deck is hugh.
I have used 2 other cleaners on my concrete driveway and get so so results. One 10 minute application of this and it looks new,
Purchased this to try to salvage my deck to refinish it. We had it completed a few years back and they caused some damage and we were waiting to resurface it ourselves. This cleaned the deck well before painting. After letting it sit, and using a strong spray for removal, it removed the mildew and some staining. Left a great finish for easy application of wood stain.
Olympic Deck Cleaner is one of the top products out there. All of the complaints out there about how the wood is turning out, I would bet they are not telling the whole story. First, let the cleaner do it's job. Put the power washer away! Your are only destroying the wood and prematurely aging it when you blast 3000 psi of water into wood, particularly if it's dry and never had a protectorant applied! Second, if you've neglected the wood or have inherited a worn deck, whether you use ODC or some other cleaner, plan on doing some sanding. Most of what you're trying to remove is organic of nature, whether it's moss, mildew or completely grayed out cedar siding, but a lot of it is pollution based. This is the only product I've found in over thirty years of painting that effectively handles both! And tree sap; some of the hardest substance to remove; doesn't stand a chance! And remember, like all cleaners, protect everything around where you are cleaning from overspray; bushes, plants; etc. Rinse thoroughly, but do it without having to plug something in or gas something up. Sorry my power washing buddies. Leave the wood alone.
I have a gray Trex deck built in 2006 with a years worth of stains and mildew. As I used the product, I could see it working but it was not perfect. Some areas still had stains and I went back over a few places and finished the deck per the instructions. I was just ok with the results. A couple hours later I came outside and the deck looked great. Give it a little time and let it dry. One item is the bottle said it covered 600 to 700 square feet... I would plan on needing a little more.
I think this would be a great product if used annually. If you let your deck go several years without cleaning it, the mildew, mold and algae have time to "build up," I neglected cleaning the deck around my pool for 7 years. Now my back and shoulders are paying the price for my "oversight." This product will soften the green algae, but it has to be removed in layers....or as I've done, using a plastic putty knife, a long handle stiff brush and plenty of scrubbing. Avoid using during the sunny time and heat of the day since evaporation becomes a real problem. What's that saying "An ounce of prevention." I will be cleaning my deck every year from now on.
The product was received early but the bottles were opened and had just a little bit of bleach and water in them. Walmart said they would take back at the store and then when I brought them in the said they wouldn't. Call my credit card company to file a fraud report. Ridiculous Walmart let's 3rd party vendors like this participate on their website.
Thank you for responding to my review. I expected the answer you gave since I had read a similar review. I want you to know that I followed the directions as outlined on the container to the letter. I made sure to leave the product on no longer than 5-10 minutes as stated in the directions and even timed it. I also made sure I applied the cleaner well after the sun had gone down and rinsed the product off for at least a steady 10 minutes. This product just did not do the job as it claims. The overall performance is actually poor. Yes, I am very upset to say the least.
Applied on one year old deck, did nothing but leave a white film on deck and fuzzies from me trying to scrub. Worked really good on two plastic chairs that were covered in mildew though. But on pressure treated deck did nothing. Now I have to sand half a deck. Thank Gid I only did half.
Used this on very expensive composite decking and it completely ruined it. I had tried a sample spot on one board and it looked fine so we did our entire deck. The entire deck looks bleached and it completely took the wood color out and now has this white bleached look. I am so upset.
