12 Pack: 4.5" Male Manikin by Artist's Loft

Excellent for drawing. The perfect size, not too large. Can pose in numerous ways that makes worth the price.

My kids wanted it for stop motion videos and they love it. They love how all the joints move and they can put them into a bunch of different positions to look realistic. Also they like that one day if they want they can also paint it. They love playing and creating. Michaels has been super awesome as we continue to learn how to craft and create. Fun!

I purchased this nifty little mannequin for my grandson, a budding artist, to help him learn to draw the human figure. My grandson--I'll call him Andy--promptly named the little guy "Fred." Andy has used Fred to draw countless characters on paper, but because Fred is poseable, Andy has also used him in the stop-motion videos he makes on his iPad. Turns out Fred has many talents!

I always need one of these little guys when I do not have one. With a Michael's coupon, I decided it was my essential buy-of-the-week. I did not expect to get one at such a great price so I purchased the larger one (12 inches). Mine is the varnished version at no increased price.

Works pretty well for my budget. The only thing is that I wish it could pivot forward and backward on it's axis (i.e. you can't do a superman pose with it). The waist is orbital though, and the joints are flexible. There's some ability to move it from side to side but I think it will eventually loosen the stand so I have to be careful to move the base rather than the shaft of it.

I was very excited to buy my first artist's mannequin but was disappointed that his limbs do not have the range of a typical human male. His wrists and ankles have good flexion, while the knees and elbow are at maybe 10-15 degree angles at most, and his head turns right but not left. I'm deciding whether to get the bigger ones of a male and a female by this manufacturer or seeking a different one.

This works okay as a vague reference model but being so small means the joints aren't as smoothly articulated as one would hope. Many poses are impossible to form, and parts of the body, such as the head, refuse to stay in place. Though I can't prove it, I suspect larger models will be easier to use, and would provide a better reference for sketching.

We bought it last night and the next day the arm detached at the elbow. So, the quality is not good.

This thing sucks. It's barely poseable. For the most part, it's only capable of a standing pose. The joints have springs in them which return them to their original position. The joints also have no range of movement, mimicking human movement virtually not at all. The box even says you can “pose it in all positions”. This is some flea market junk which is far beneath the Michael's standard of quality I'm used to. Don't buy this unless all your drawings will be a neutral standing pose.

While this is a great size, when you go to pose it there are springs or rubber bands in the leg joints so if you wanted to pose someone standing on one foot, it's not possible. Returning and looking for a more expensive model that will hold any pose.
