I was in emergency need of a new garbage disposal but was also on a really tight budget. I started looking on the internet for an affordable/reliable replacement. When I found the GE unit within my price range I knew I was making the right choice. In all my years of dealing with GE products in other areas I knew I was getting a good product at a great price. What I didn't realize is that I was improving my sink greatly over the unit I took out. It takes up less space under the sink than the old one but is also alot quieter too. Anybody thats in need of a replacement disposal but is also in my situation of being tight on money will be making a great choice.
I bought this to replace an old, non-working, too large for my needs unit. Since I compost I don't need anything too large. This fits the cabinet space nicely, is not too loud, and was easy to install after reading the directions, with only basic household tools since I was replacing and not having to start from scratch with the plumbing.
This is a fine disposal, more than adequate SINCE NONE OF US SHOULD BE GRINDING UP LARGE QUANTITIES OF ANYTHING! To protect the environment, we should only grind up scraps that go down the drain; larger amounts should be composted or put in the trash. So this small unit should meet all your needs. It is inexpensive, works for years, and will take care of all that anyone should put down it. It is easy to install with one caution: its predecessor model plugged into a regular socket; this one has to be hardwired. Other than that, installation is easy.
This garbage disposal is so much quieter than my old one. I have only had it two days but so far it works very well. The only bad thing is that the screws were missing and we had to use the screws from the old one - which thankfully fit!
After selecting, purchasing and installing several replacement disposals in the past, we no longer wanted to do the installation ourselves and asked our local handyman to due the entire process. His choice was the GE. It has worked well. We do find that the rubber "sleeves" are so tight we have to repeatedly push the objects in.
Overall I have no complaints. For the price it's a solid unit that was easy to install. I would like to remind anyone who buys this that it does not come with an attached power cord so you will have to buy this. I knew this and wasn't an issue in the purchase. It's quiet enough but not the quietest I have used. It handles fruits and vegetable peelings well.
I wanted to replace my 30 year old disposal because it was getting too loud. I was shocked when this disposal was louder trhan my old one. I had a cast iron sink with an 1 1/4" thich countertop and the whole countertop vibrated when the disposal was on. I've since replaced my 30 year old sink with a new 9" deep stainless steel one. The countertop vibrated so badly that I avoid using the dispoal. Everything is installed correctly as I have been doing this type of work for over 35 years. I guess I should have spent more money on a better disposal
This product replaced a 20 year old GE Disposall disposer and was a perfect fit. No extra plumbing required. The old GE disposer still worked but made alot of noise and vibrations. After I removed the old one I found some small rocks inside (no one will admit how that happened). So the old one actually wasn't bad but I went ahead and replaced it anyway. The new one seems quieter and uses less power than the old model so I'm happy with my purchase.
I have lived in a home without a disposal, so having one in my new house was a must. Unfortunately, water often backs up in the sink while using the disposal. Having to reach to the other wall to to turn on the disposal while in the middle of doing dishes it isn't ideal. It's better than nothing and certainly works but I wish it were a little more robust.
My husband had to buy additional parts to install it, as well as, shave some pieces down for them to fit correctly.
