Excellent true life action movie produced by Clint Eastwood, evil terrorist want to kill people in France
This film drags for the first half so that would've been nice going in. In that first hour it bounces back and forth between when they were kids and what happened after they were grown and I found that a little disconcerting. One thing that is most unusual in film making is to use the real people as the actors in the film. Even though it's not Academy Award material, it is still a decent movie about a real event; an event where 3 young men put their lives at risk, to save the more than 550 passengers from a terrorist on a bullet train bound for Paris. In addition, Clint Eastwood directed this film.
From external reviews I had read, I was given a false impression about the lives of these young men, expecting to see them living out Christian lives, but that isn't what is depicted. They were raised in Christian environments, but not living for Jesus. They may have been affected by that environment in that they cared about other people and were willing to give of themselves. Hard to say exactly what Eastwood was trying to portray about their faith as it looks mixed, showing one of the men as a boy praying after getting into much trouble. You still see him as a grown up as not really submitting himself to Jesus Christ as he is a typical young man, who may care about helping people, but has a foul mouth, drinks and parties like anybody else. There is nothing to indicate that serving God means anything to him, but he does wonder about serving some kind of purpose. The language was also a bit rough. I understand Eastwood's desire for making things real, but because of the expectation of men who were practicing Christians, it was doubly difficult to take. Given these were the real men, as well were the shooting victim and his wife, it was a positive and negative. They didn't do terribly, but trained actors may have done a better job. The positive was that you do get a better sense of what really happened as if anyone knew, it was them, so for those who like realism and want a more than just a well- done docudrama, this would be it.
