They do glow! There's a pull tab and then you flip a little switch on the bottom of the glow blocks. The switch is a little difficult if you don't have fingernails but my 8 year old has no problem switching it. The glow specific blocks do have a tiny screw for replacement batteries which I assume are some kind of watch battery but we haven't gotten that far yet. Overall, we are incredibly happy with these magnetic blocks. My daughter has multiple sets/styles from different vendors and these hold up to the same standards. Bold bright colors, the design hasn't peeled, and it magnetizes well. The possibilities are endless, all you need is a little imagination.

I absolutely love these little magnetic blocks, and so do 3 of my children. Ages 2, 4, and 7. And you can actually link any of the sets together, just like Lego blocks! So fun and cute!

This is the best Christmas gift ever. I bought it for my friends daughter, she is 5 years old, she loves it so much. Played it by herself for 2 hours!

my kids absolutely love these blocks ! to me they resemble a hotel Transylvania style theme. but really it's about how easy they are to use as my son struggles and gets frustrated at regular Legos.

I did not realize some of these (8) blocks have batteries and lights. Very cute but careful if your kids or animals put objects in there mouth, I was also disappointed the box says hotel on the front but the 5 letters provided spells hot ho, and of course they light up. Most kids learn to spell at a reasonably young age. I guess it would make a great gift for that not so prim and proper person you might know. Thankfully my grand daughter can't read yet but those blocks might have to go away , maybe she won't miss 5 light up blocks.

Item was supposed to be a hotel that you can put together but the item came with two H blocks and two O blocks. It also didn't come with the correct blocks to build the hotel itself. I purchased this item as a gift and can't even return it without upsetting the child it was brought for.

Cannot give a honest review on these blocks because I sent them back so I have no idea what they are like

to much money for the few blocks you get. and plastic breaks easy
