Extra support brackets?

Kevin A. May 21, 2026

The running boards are pretty decent. I wish they would develop an extra support bracket on the driver's board and an extra one at the sliding door exit. I believe these added to the running boards would make them feel much more solid. I may fab up some on my own and add them.

Steelcraft running boards

John j. December 19, 2024

Iinstalled these myself in about an hour. Very easy and they look very nice. Quality seems good but a Bolt broke on the bracket holding board to mount. . The price was good also.

Overall they look good and

Greg N. October 31, 2024

Overall they look good and perform well. The design of the mounting brackets to the boards made it a little challenging to tighten the little screws but it was doable.

Running boards

Paul B. July 23, 2026

They added the extra step for me. They look great on my van and the installation instructions were on target. Follow the instructions.

They do the job at a good cost

Eric P. September 18, 2024

I'm happy with my running boards…except for the fact that they were advertised as “no drill” for my vehicle. I wound up drilling sixteen holes through the pinch welds and frame. It was hard work.

Install is a little goofy

Jonathan M. June 1, 2025

The brackets used to attach the running boards to the vehicle body could be designed better. It's nearly a two person job just to get the brackets to hang just right. Quality seems to be high; the boards are sturdy and heavy duty.

Look great, good value (but had issues)

Doug May 27, 2024

Just what I was looking for: a simple, clean running board for my 2018 Ford Transit (lifted 4x4 w/ larger tires) without spending a ton on fancy van conversion companies' aluminum version. Once installed, they enhanced the appearance of my burly van. They make stepping in/out of the van much easier/safer. They feel very solid where they are meant to be stepped on. So I am happy and would recommend. That said, I'll echo previous Transit reviews regarding difficulty of install... it was a bit of a nightmare. Instructions are flawed/confusing, hardware is cheap... easy to strip threads. I had to modify numerous pieces to get it to work (inadequate clearances and alignment issues). Issues & Concerns: 1) My van had factory-installed studs at most of the bracket mounting locations, which I thought would make it easier, however it still took several hours to get all of the brackets installed. Much of that time was spent attempting to release the clips holding the rocker panel moulding to the body. I finally figured it out on the driver side (I'll try to post a youtube video... definitely tricky). I was actually able to install the brackets without removing the rocker panel, thanks to the factory-installed studs, but no studs would require releasing the clips to access from the outside. Just be aware that the rocker panel can be very difficult to remove without breaking clips! 2) Once the passenger side brackets were finally installed after hours on my back, I set the long board on them and realized the board was bent (bowed down in the middle). RealTruck promptly shipped me a replacement. The way it is packaged, the long board is definitely susceptible to bending due to leverage on the long box. The replacement was slightly deformed too, but not too bad, and I straightened it so it is no longer noticeable. Be sure to inspect straightness of the board when received, even if the package doesn't appear to be damaged. 3) Now that installation is complete, the portion of both running boards in front of the front brackets feels flimsy (just behind the front wheel well). I am concerned the boards will bend if someone stands on this unsupported area (approx 1 foot), but that's not where you'd step to get in the front doors. I am considering adding a bracket to support the fronts, but would require more modification and we'll see how it goes. The rest of the stepping area is plenty solid. Bottom line: these look like they were made for a Transit, visually tie-in nicely to the body contours, with just right angularity and rugged vibe. I like the traction and finish. After many hours battling the install, I am still glad I bought them (well-worth the $, maybe not the time), and felt obligated to leave a review. Will try to add photos.
