liked these beans because I can control the salt intake on them. actually I like them so much that I bought two more packages and have one pack in my crockpot now. they can be frozen for up to three months. the dried beans run about $1.70 or so which is quite a deal considering most cans are about $1.00 but you only get not quite the amount of beans you get with the dried beans. I also checked Pinterest before doing this cooking the beans. it's amazing what one can do that doesn't involve chili. I now have started freezing other types of beans for later consumption. dried beans save a ton of money and pantry space
I buy these to cook in my instapot and I make seasoned beans to make burrito bowls; it's absolutely delicious, cook the beans, make yourself some rice, add to bowl with salsa, sour cream, onions, cilantro, lettuce and tomato. YUM. here's the recipe I use to make my black beans - you're welcome 😁 Ingredients 2 cups dried black beans 6 cups water Heaping ½ cup diced white onion 2 large garlic cloves, chopped 2 teaspoons sea salt 1 teaspoon chili powder 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1 teaspoon dried oregano Freshly ground black pepper Fresh lime juice, optional pepper Fresh lime juice, optional Instructions Place the beans in a large colander and sort through them to remove and discard any stones or debris. Rinse the beans and transfer them to the Instant Pot. Add the water, onion, garlic, salt, chili powder, cumin, oregano, and several grinds of pepper. Secure the lid on the Instant Pot and Pressure Cook on High for 25 minutes, or 20 minutes if you prefer firmer beans. Allow the Instant Pot to release pressure naturally. This will take 20 to 30 minutes. When the float valve drops, remove the lid. Use the beans in your favorite black bean recipes or season to taste with more salt, pepper, and squeezes of lime juice, if desired, and serve as a side dish. *recipe compliments of loveandlemons.com
These beans were as expected, and I’m sure my soup will be excellent. However, the nutrition information on the bag and the website says there are 26 dry 1/4 cup servings in the bag. I measured the beans, and there were about 4 cups of beans in the bag. That’s 16 1/4 cup servings, not 26. If you’re buying to reach a certain quantity, this is important.
These beans are always very fresh and cook up quickly. I love the flavor of freshly prepared beans with a little chicken stock for flavor. Great value in this larger pack size. We go through a lot of beans, so I appreciate the value.
Have been using this blackbean for years to make the traditional Cuban rice called arroz moro. In order to do this, you must boil in water a pack of either 14 ounces to 32 ounces depending on how much rice you’re making and I only trust the great value brand due to the flavor but above all the color it gives the rice. I always get compliments on how delicious the rice came out and it’s beautiful, vibrant mute, purple color that sticks to the rice. We also make the traditional black beans with this bean, but definitely prefer this for the arroz moro. Have recommended this to everyone in my family and friends, and has not disappointed.
Made Cuban style black beans using these. They were delicious! I am considering having them again today.
Love making a big pot of black beans with onions. Just a fantastically healthy veg with Protein‼️‼️‼️
Beans are so good. purchased to make my own canned beans. healthier than canned beans which has preservatives.
Great Value Black Beans, 32 oz (the above beans) narrow the esophagus, as a result at least 1 cup of water must be consumed with the beans if consumed twice or more times. Consuming too much water with the above black beans can lead to something similar to a laxative effect which causes the mixture to come out easily at the other end.
These beans have been stored far too long. They were badly broken, had to be cooked twice as long as normal and went from hard to broken apart mess within minutes. Still had a few crunchies in the pk. They should have been clearances out or at least had the price lowered for quick sale. I'll probably continue to buy them because I'm a penny pincher and the taste was there but I won't recommend. Used in tacos or dirty rice or chili, they work fine.
