I greatly dislike the small package size that Walmart uses for bran flakes. As a regular consumer of this product it would mean a lot if, IF, Walmart would reward large routine purchases of GV bran flakes. It's one of the FEW remaining low sugar cereals. Start thinking about what's healthy for Walmart CUSTOMERS and less about the bank accounts of Walmart shareholders.
Better quality and taste than any other bran flake cereal sold in my area. I've tried them all from the name brands to the generics. The Walmart brand wins. Others go from no taste, to having hard clumps than can crack a tooth because their poor milling machine maintenance. Not this brand, NEVER a hard clump. Walmart has found a company to make this product that it top notch, and they deserve recognition.
Great Value recently changed the recipe for this cereal. I've been eating it for breakfast for a while now because of the high fiber and iron it contains. It tastes more processed now, less flavorful, and gets soggier faster. It also has 70% iron, down from 100%. Please go back to the old recipe! It was so delicious before.
This was a substitution for Post Shredded Wheat and Bran which is what I wanted. But this is just an off brand of Bran Flakes And today I found there was a huge chunk of cemented brown flakes in it, which if I decided to chew, it would probably have broken a tooth. Not good.
I have buying these bran flakes for years (usually 10 boxes at a time) and really liked them. However, there must of been a change in the recipe and they are terrible now. I don't know what they did but they are disgustingly crunchy and harder to chew. They have a different taste- almost like some kind of sweetness was added. I am bummed because now I have to find a new cereal. There was more crumbs too.
I have been buying this product for a long time and have been happy with it. But the formulation of this product has recently changed, and the quality has significantly decreased. The product depicted on the website is the old formulation, with 11 servings per box and higher nutritional content. The new formulation supposedly has 12 servings per box and the nutrition content decreased. The old formulation had 100% RDA of many vitamins, the new is much lower. Plus the old formulation tasted better. The new formulation has a strange cardboard-like taste. In the attached photo, the old formulation is on the left and the new is on the right.
I have purchased GV Brand Flakes for years because it was my favorite cereal for many reasons. It tasted good, was healthy, and kept me regular. Sometime within the past 3-months the manufacturer has changed the product such that it has more sugar, less nutrition, binds me up and the texture is like trying to chew gravel. I recommend choosing another brand.
We've bought loads of these guys--it's my morning go-to (with added raisins). The last two boxes we've bought decidedly have a major problem. We didn't get bran FLAKES, we got bran POWDER. Top layer of the box had a few flakes, but everything down below was waaaaay to un-flakey. Took one box back to a different story, hundreds of miles distant, were told without a receipt had to trade in like-for-like--which I dislike. So gambled, went out on the floor and got a box. Took the inner bag out in front of the returns clerk, more flakes than the returned one, but still kind of disappointing. But Wally doesn't sell any other bran flakes (unless you count raisin bran, and the raisins are typically tooth-breaking hard), so my have go to--don't say it--Safeway--to try their house brand of bran flakes.
I have been eating this cereal for years (like a bowl every day) it used to be the best tasting bran flakes on the market but then they had to go and change the recipe and not even say anything about it, I threw a whole box away because I thought something was wrong with it (looked up online and found out that yep they did change it, now it is disgusting! It is bland with no bran flavor whatsoever.. I will definitely be looking for a new favorite cereal, I will not continue buying this unless they change the recipe back.
Loved this but now the box is smaller and says 12 servings vs 11 and doesn't even have a quarter of the vitamins and other benefits that make eating these pencil shavings worth it. No notice that the ingredients changed. Terrible and dangerous for anyone with certain allergies!
