Hungry Jack are the best instant potatoes. You do have to doctor them up with more butter than the recipe recommends, but so what—that's how mashed potatoes go. They mix up well and don't taste like glue—much like all the other brands I've tried. I hate that I have to order these as no store sells them! Why?? They are bomb! All the others—Idaho spuds, etc taste like glue! Anyway—buy the Hungry Jack, they are worth it!
I always buy Idahoan brand. I preferred real potatoes but arthritis hit my hands and that's over. well, I tried hungry jack. every time they are excellent. that's the one thing about idahoan, every batch seems to be different. some times really dry and stiff, sometimes loose, grainy and not so lovely. it seems to be a potato problem. sometimes my favorite kettle chips taste mealy and kinda "off" - anyway these are great mashed potatoes if you're a potato lover:)
I have used these instant potatoes for years and i am very glad to see that you have the option again to buy the large boxes. They taste just like homemade potatoes and have the consistency of homemade potatoes. The other brands have a watery taste and are very thin in consistency. So happy to have the option to purchase these again.
The Only Instant Mashed Potatoes I Like, The Best ones on the Market. Very Glad that Wal-mart Carries Them!! Thank you, Wal-Mart. They arrived next Day as I requested
Best purchase value for your money, being a celiac it's really hard to find a good tasting product, this hungry jack… yea it hits different especially with a little cheese and sour cream mixed in
These have same taste and texture of real potatoes. They are not available everywhere, so I was happy to find them. I recommend them for convenience when preparing, quick and easy.
We don't buy it to make and eat at a meal. We buy it for a recipe that calls for it. The service from Walmart was excellent. It came in record time!
These aren't like REAL Homemade Taters. Taste NOTHING Like Homemade Mash Taters. BUT, These are shelf stable and if you need them in a pinch for other dishes or as a thickener they work great. I have a Chicken Tater bake that I make and I use these to make it. I also make them different than the instructions. I use 2x amount of milk and 1/2 the water when making, So it it's like 2 cup water and 1 cup milk, I use 2 cup milk and 1 cup water. Turns out way better.
Fresh is better, but in a pinch when you're hangry this could save the peace in your home. Add enough butter, salt and pepper to this and you'll do it again in the future.
The box wasn't full. It had a hold in the box. I made 3 servings twice from the whole box. This was my 2nd box and both boxes had a hole in it. I believe it was from a box cutter. I had to pour the box in a sandwich bag. Like I said I fixed a 3 servings twice. That's it. They don't care if they cut your box or not. Lmk if you need pics of the box.
