I used to get the off-brand sardines only, thinking there wouldn't be much difference. Now that I've had these a couple times I can't go back. The olive oil flavor is so much more tasty. They're a good source of protein and healthy fats when you need a light dinner.
Let me start by saying I do not like sardines. I wish I did. I bought these for health reasons. They did exceed my expectations, though. I was able to make myself eat them without too much ick. In fact, I mixed them with mayo and spread them on a chaffle and it was pretty tasty. Of all the sardines I've ever tried to choke down, I have to say these are the best. Someone who likes sardines would probably love them. I do feel they are higher quality and have better overall texture and flavor. If you have a mini waffle maker, a chaffle is an easy alternative to bread: 1/2 cup of shredded cheese and 1 egg. Mix well. Put about 2 tablespoons on your waffle maker and cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Delicious.
I research sardines on line and it said that the King Oscar Brisling Sardines is generally the same as sold in Europe. The European standards are more strict than in the US due to US companies getting the US Government to accept lower standards. The other sardines that I used to buy had about 3 sardines to a can. The King Oscar Brisling Sardines have 12 or more per can and have a lightly smoked flavor. The sardines are caught in Norwegian fjords. Bottom line is that it has great taste and great quality. I started eating more sardines since I am a senior citizen and need a good source of protein.
Have been a regular consumer of King Oscar sardines in extra virgin olive oil for a number of years. Since these are wild caught and not farm raised that is a plus. The taste and nutritional value of sardines (protein, omega 3 fatty acids, vitamins B12 and vitamin D, calcium) is exceptional. The tase is exceptional. I normally have a can of King Oscar sardines once a week. Would recommend.
I had never tried King Oscar's Sardines in EVOO until recently but they are indeed the best of the best and I like their taste and texture and the fact that they are really in EVOO which is a must for me. I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants to reap the benefits of eating sardines which are packed with protein and omegas! Thank you King Oscar as I am a new fan for life!
item has changed quite a bit in the past years. price hike as you know the big big thing for me. sardines are smaller. and the packaging has remained the same so you're paying really the cost has a lot to do with it
I guess you have to like can sardines. Any kind of canned fish. I'm not a fan of can fish. But I ground them up with more olive oil and green and black olives, and put it on crackers. It came out OK. We were trying to follow doctors orders. It's just childhood memories. That kind of makes me not like cancer sardines.
Didn't taste good!
I was short a can of King Oscar sardines in extra virgin olive oil.
One of the cans got dented enough for the oil oozed. The box had the copper belt and the Sardines with no bubble wrap with room to move around in transit . I had the pictures on file of the stained box and the damaged can...
