There are some complaints that it tastes like sauerkraut with a bit of kimchi spice. That's why I got it. I LOVE IT. It's perfect for entry level fermented foods eaters who already like sauerkraut. I just wish it didn't have sugar in it. I can eat it by the spoonful but serving size says a 1/4tsp of sugar per 2 tbsp :( Perfect pinch of spice
This kimchi is very delicious, however if you are sensitive to spicy foods, this will be too much for you. I like mildly spicy foods, but this is almost too much for me. My wife eats hot peppers everyday and doesn't find this spicy at all. I had kimchi at a restaurant recently and it rated watered down and was nowhere near as flavourful as the Ocean's Halo. At any rate I find it very delicious and highly recommend it.
I love this kimchi. It is shelf stable until opened. It is less spicy than other refrigerated brands. It was still a bit to hot for me. I solved this by using as finishing item much like a sprinkle of cheese or bacon. Wonderful on fish tacos. I add the juice instead of red pepper flakes in stir-fry dishes. I don't add it tothe pan it is drizzled over the stir-fry when plating. This helps preserve the nutrients that the heat would destroy.
Product arrived with seal broken as if someone had opened it before it was packed. I'd bought it before %26 liked taste %26 the fact that it didn't require refrigeration til it was opened. Still do. Did get refund for defective item but will not buy again because of risk of contamination
I've had a few different brands of kimchi. This is my least favorite: It's blander, less sour and has a taste (and smell) I can only described as "funky". It's not the fish sauce. Something else is causing the funky taste/smell. Grown daughter and I both tasted it and we both agree about the taste. Will not buy again or recommend. Box arrived with crush and tear damage. Two jars shattered. Glass shards, kimchi and juice all over, resulting in labels of other jars being destroyed. Couldn't return because I can't get to Walmart and I can't print a shipping label.
This Kimchi has "Organic Canola Oil" and "Organic cane sugar" in the ingredients. Canola oil Organic or normal is high in Omega-6, not something you want to consume in large quantities, if at all. Im seeing other reviews calling this fake Kimchi because its not using real Korean cabbage, this may be true, but the extra sugar added is also a deal breaker if you are on a low / no sugar diet due to diabetes. Overall it tastes good, however its not as healthy as you would think. Unfortunately I wont be purchasing this brand again.
If you've had kimchi before then you will hate this. I loved the idea that you can just put it in your pantry and open it whenever you want but it's really not worth it. It tastes like sauerkraut with barely any spice and it has little to no flavor like they added water or something. It's even shredded like sauerkraut. The only thing that was decent was that it's not soggy and still has a nice crunch. It's not worth the convenience or money
This is poorly made sauerkraut masquerading as kimchi. Not made with Napa cabbage but green cabbage. The closest it comes to the real thing is the fact it has a passing and brief a carrot at some point leaving a few strands here and there. Don't do it. It's awful.
The taste of this product is terrible!! It tastes like a watered-down sauerkraut. Now I like sauerkraut, but this doesn't even rise to the quality of a decent sauerkraut. It is truly awful. The color and flavor makes it appear that the spice level is about 1/5 that it should be. Honestly I was surprised at how terrible it was.
It's nasty. If you like Kimchi this is not for you. I have never left a review on an item but it legit tastes like spicy (barely spicy) sauerkraut. Not kimchi. I don't think Walmart should sell this item. It's so bad it's pretty much false advertising
