Absolutely delicious! I'm so glad I found this... It will become a staple in my house. It's tangy and tomato-y and compliments chicken extremely well with all the right spices (but no heat). I pair it with basmati rice and get at least two meals out of one pouch. Dinner... then lunch! Very well done and I highly recommend it.
I made the Walmart recipe “Indian joes” ..maybe change the name to “curry joes” but I digress.. regardless, it did indeed taste like sloppy joes and was delicious. I used ground chicken and instead of serving over rice or buns I did buttered sourdough toast…sooo yummy I made this review as soon as I finished it :)
Only writing a review after seeing it get so many one stars. This stuff is great and very easy to make. Sure, it is not restaurant quality - but it is not far off - and if that is your expectation then of course you're going to be disappointed. I did not find it to be overly spicy at all either. The Tiki Masala version is spicier for sure. Tips: use thighs and, instead of just browning in a pan, throw it in a pressure cooker so the chicken falls apart, more like the real restaurant mouth feel where they've let it simmer for hours. Also, try adding a tablespoon or two of tomato paste and 1/3rd cup of half and half for a richer, more velvety sauce. Serve over basmati and be sure to grab some naan. Ooooweeee! It's a meal I can happily eat for 2-3 days by myself. Well done, Passage to India!
Of all Indian food options, Passage to India is my favorite brand, and this is my favorite product of theirs. The 13.2 ounce size is a great size for dinner for two with plenty of yummy leftovers. This makes a super easy meal that always satisfies and impresses my guests. I serve it over Basmati rice, usually served with a simple vegetable such as cut green beans. This recipe explodes with flavor, but is not hot-spicy at all...mellow and aromatic.
If you enjoy India food, this is the sauce for you! Tastes exactly like Butter Chicken you'd order from a restaurant. Omar fry two chicken breasts and chop, add sauce to pan and simmer for a half hour… delicious!
I mix one package with twice the chicken and add a package of vegan mix butter chick pea to increase vegetables in our meal
This sauce was very easy to make. I used boneless. Skinless chicken thighs, cut into strips. I just used salt, pepper, fresh garlic and a little paprika. I did add 2 tablespoons or tomato paste and some half and half after it was done simmering. Put it on Basmati rice and it was delicious. My whole family loved it
This tasted nothing like Butter Chicken. It was incredibly vinegary and bitter. At first I wondered if I had received an expired product because the taste was so bad. After checking the expiration date on the package, it was clear that was not the case. This was disappointing because the other simmer sauces from this same brand are delicious. Won't be repurchasing this particular simmer sauce.
I love Indian food and had high hopes for this Butter Chicken Simmer Sauce, but it was a complete disappointment. The flavor is overwhelmingly sweet—more like curried ketchup than a true butter sauce. It was so off-putting that we found it inedible. Honestly, it was so bad that I was genuinely upset it ruined our entire meal. If you're looking for an authentic, balanced butter chicken experience, this is definitely not it. I wouldn't recommend it at all.
The sauce was over sweet, didn't taste authentic at all, and very heavy tomato and that's about it. Not good flavor.
