These are excellent shittake mushrooms. They have excellent taste and are also very affordable!!!...

I prefer fresh, but these worked out well. Used these for a lettuce wrap recipe, and the taste was ljked by everyone!

Convenient to have in the pantry to add to a stir fry or other purpose. Nice sized jar for two people.

Let's be honest: cleaning and slicing fresh shiitakes is a chore. The Polar Shiitake Mushrooms in Jar are the ultimate "cheat code" for adding deep, earthy flavor to your cooking without the prep work. Since they are pre-sliced and jarred in brine, they are ready to toss straight into a stir-fry, a bowl of ramen, or even on top of a steak. The texture is the main thing to note here. [Inference] Because they are preserved in liquid, they are going to be a bit "slipperier" and softer than a fresh mushroom that's been sautéed in butter. They have a very concentrated umami punch, so a little goes a long way. Make sure to rinse them before using if you want to dial back the saltiness of the brine. For a shelf-stable item, the quality is impressively consistent. They are a literal lifesaver for those "I have nothing in the fridge" dinner nights where you need to make a basic pasta or rice dish feel a little more sophisticated.

My mouth couldn't tell the difference in taste and texture between these and regular mushrooms in a can. Both are hydrated. No cooking required, so I can dump directly into soup. They are the cheapest Shiitake carried by Walmart, but taste is okay, and quality is high. The glass jar lets you see the contents before opening. These cost 46.2 cents/ounce (not the 29.7 cents/ounce claimed by Walmart) versus 37.5 cents/ounce for canned mushrooms. They are little higher priced, but not sufficiently to deter purchase if your tongue can tell the difference, or your eyes influence your taste (they are long and skinny versus round for regular mushrooms). If a recipe calls for them, I'll buy these; else, I'll stick with regular mushrooms in a can to add to my soups and stews.

Works in a pinch if you don't have fresh shiitake, and quicker (and tastes as good as) rehydrated dried shiitake. I like the convenience! Will keep these in stock in the pantry.
