Really tasty, this is my favorite soup. A great quick and easy and relatively healthy meal. High in sodium like most canned soups are, but also has a ton of fiber and protein. I like to add some frozen broccoli florets and fresh spinach when I heat it up, helps it pack even more of a nutritional punch.
Delicious! Progresso has been a go-to for quite a while now and their canned soup did not suffer in taste and quality during our COVID shut down. Kudos! If you don't like lentil soup by itself, consider adding a can of shredded chicken and season to your taste. Lentils are a healthy choice.
I loved this soup in the past. It stayed on my shelf and was one of my favorites. Suddenly, they changed it. It became more like "Spinach Soup Lightly Flavored with Lentils." When you opened the can, all you could see was dark green soup. I stopped buying it. I decided to give it another chance after about a seven year boycott and luckily they have restored it to it's former look and taste. Good job, Progresso. I will add it back to my soup rotation. It's an excellent soup.
Tasty, reliable soup that is fun to add quick changes to and voila, new soup no one's had before, like a big spoon of salsa mixed in, or some random chicken you have. Endless options and I've tried dozens. Sometimes, though, I just love it as is. PS, excellent hangover cure!
A can of this soup warmed in the pan with a handful of frozen cut leaf spinach and a spritz of olive oil.., to die for. Serve with a little grated Parmesan and crusty French bread.., lunch for a King (or even an old retired person on a cold winters day).
So good! Then I get Walmart rye bread. Its my favorite meal! Either for lunch or dinner. Its so good. Or I make rice add the soup on top. with a couple of pieces of bacon. Light, delicious and filling. I been buying this soup over 25 years. It tasted better all the time. It 50 percent thicker then back in the day. So good!
I absolutely love lentils!! However, I no longer make lentil soup from scratch. Dunno why, maybe because I'm too lazy? Anywho, this soup tastes pretty good! My only issue is that I find it to be too salty, so I added it to the red, yellow and green peppers that I cooked in unsalted chicken stock. Wow!!! No longer too salty! So, I do recommend this soup!
Ive liked this for years but after Walmart rolled back the price I tried to eat a can of it and when I opened it I noticed it was watery I heated it anyway but it tasted sour. My son came to me and said "I don't like this" XD I was like yeah I don't either something's wrong with it just throw it away. Then he asked "are we going to get sick?" O.O It has never been sour like that before. I also noticed the color on the label is "off" like it's darker than it used to be. It's all suspicious and I have 2 or 3 more cans that look the same that I bought discounted from Walmart and haven't opened. None of them are expired but now I'm afraid to try the them. They were purchased around Nov/Dec 2025. For lentil soup fans out there: Try cutting chunks of sweet mozzarella and add to heated soup. Don't add before heating or you'll have a stringy mess.
Loved all Progresso soups so far, but their lentil was awful. If I'd had something else to eat (just moved and kitchen not set up yet) I woulda tossed it, asit was barely edible. The lentils were mushy and flavor quite strange. I couldn't taste any particular spice. Now, this is the 1st time I've had non-homeade lentil soup. But, it was really, really bad. Their split pea with ham is my fav.
This is not the soup I used to love. It seems to have been watered down and has little taste, though it contains more sodium per can than any human should eat in a day. I will never buy this brand of soup again.
