Convenient, thrifty and good tasting. Adds zip to the dish and lift to the pancakes. Adding vinegar to milk really does not produce the same results as buttermilk
The Saco Buttermilk Blend Powder is great to have on hand when you don't need to buy a large container of fresh buttermilk for a recipe. Some recipes call for just 1 cup of buttermilk so why buy a whole quart? Just remember to refrigerate the container after opening it!
i was pleasantly surprised by this, i use it to make buttermilk pancakes and biscuits. i hate buying buttermilk because its expensive and some always goes to waste, this is tbe answer to have it on hand for recipes. the vinegar trick does NOT work, but this is very close to using actual buttermilk. for those making something that isnt just an ingredient in a recipe, ie for ranch dressing, id suggest mixing it with milk instead to get the thickness/texture. this imparts the flavor of buttermilk but when you mix it with water its going to be thinner.
This was left out of my delivery, accident's happen. I advised Walmart and they credited my account immediately!!! Their customer service for online delivery service is outstanding! As for the product, I use buttermilk daily and I love this product! Walmart now has it for the best price! Just be sure you immediately refrigerate it after you open it!
I like that you can make buttermilk quickly and less costly than the real thing. Of course you can do lemon juice or vinegar in milk to create buttermilk for baked goods but this is a powder kept in the fridge. You just mix some of the powder with water. After mixing, I leave it for 15 minutes and stir again so it's mixed well. Just know it won't be thick like dairy buttermilk but it's very convenient and more cost effective than buying buttermilk, plus it works well in recipes calling for buttermilk.
Voila! Now I always have buttermilk in the pantry. I make several recipes that call for buttermilk- but I never have it on hand. I buy it %26 it spoils before I can use it all, or I need it again. So this is a LIFESAVER. For my own purposes using it in recipes, I don't notice a single difference between using the powder or regular liquid buttermilk, %26 no one has ever commented on a difference. Maybe if you tried to mix it %26 drink it straight- idk.... but does anyone drink straight buttermilk?? Well- if you use buttermilk with any semi-regular basis, but not often enough to always have it in the fridge- BUY THIS. I don't think you will regret it.
This buttermilk powder has been a lifesaver for my recipes. I was so glad to find it at Walmart. It is a good bargain and a very good tasting product to add to recipes that need buttermilk. I don't keep buttermilk around but having this buttermilk power is great I will be ordering again. I would truly recommend it to have on hand.
This is great for when you have a recipe calling for buttermilk. I use it primarily when making buttermilk biscuits and pancakes from scratch. The results are always great. Best of all it has a very long shelf life and only needs to be refrigerated after opening. The "Use By Date" on the last 2 containers we purchased was nearly 4 years beyond the purchase date. Since we only use buttermilk for baking/cooking purposes purchasing fresh buttermilk isn't cost effective because it would probably end up going bad before we used it all. Having a container of The Saco Pantry Cultured Buttermilk Blend on hand solves that problem. I absolutely love this product!!!
I occasionally bake with buttermilk. It was always a pain to have to buy fresh buttermilk for a recipe and then throw the rest away. This powder solved the problem. After opening the package, the powder slowly turns into a solid rock. But if I get a couple of uses out of it before it dries up, it still saves time and money.
have been using this brand for years and love it, the last two containers however were completely clumped hard rocks, the buttermilk powder a pain to mix into any recipe. It's almost as though it was stored improperly or the seal was an issue or possibly the storage. Something made the buttermilk become rock hard dry clumps
