we just picked this bike up yesterday in the store and my son loves it. when I saw the price.. I loved it too. We weren't planning on getting a bike that day, but since he is just kind of getting back into riding after learning how to ride without training wheels on his smaller 16" bike last summer... it was the last one like it on the rack so we nabbed it. My son is 8 and right at 48" tall. I had him try an 18" bike first and he looked ok on it but I could see how he would soon out grow it too like he has his 16". the 18" bike was also 70 bucks. with the seat lowered on this bike it is the prefect height. plenty of room to grow into but comfortable as-is for now which is the biggest thing. And it is actually easier for him to ride than his smaller 16" because of the longer pedal strokes. the longer frame and larger wheels give more stability. nice wide handle bar helps control. he says "it's so fast" and can now pedal up the driveway which he couldn't do on his smaller bike. great bike! Nothing real fancy but just what the learning rider needs. We moved the hand brake over from his old bike for the front wheel and it bolted right up. so that way he can get used to using hand brakes. as far as Wal-Mart's description the picture shows a bike with black wheels, it actually has white wheels which look better. The "soft" grips are more like hard rubber or soft plastic.. wouldn't call them soft by any means. crossbar pad is nice. Would be even nicer if it had a matching pad for the frame tube for safety. that is really my ONLY complaint, but if it becomes and issue I will just make one from a pool noodle or something. would also be nice to have a hand brake for the front wheel but it's not a deal breaker. for the price point you are getting a great platform and a pretty sharp looking bike. As another poster mentioned.. the axle stubs are not long enough to bolt up training wheels. So be sure your rider is ready to ride without them before you buy. The ROCK IT a great bike! Sharp looking and priced right. thanks Wal-Mart!
This is great looking, sleek, and for the price you can't beat it! We purchased this as our son's first bike for his 6th birthday. We figured it would be best to go with the 20" wheel size so it can grow with him for awhile. We bought training wheels and here's where the "but..." in my title comes into play - the way the frame is made on the rear axle makes it impossible to attach training wheels! So if you have a child still learning to ride, I'd skip this bike.
My 8-year-old LOVES this bike! My son enjoys riding it. The color is great and the price is wonderful!
Simple, affordable and good quality!
