I love my new sewing machine! Minus one tiny thing-the cover to bobbin home is hard to open. I had to open to retrieve empty bobbin. Struggled to open it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Brother LX3817G 17-stitch Full-size Sewing Machine in Grey is great for everyday essential sewing and mending. This is a full size sewing machine but is lightweight and durable. It is easy to learn to use. It has several great features that make your sewing experience easier and great for beginners. It has an upper thread tension dial, quick set drop in bobbin, easy bobbin winder, free arm for sewing sleeves, reverse sewing lever, bright LED light in work area, and an easy stitch selector. This machine also comes with all the accessories needed such as 4 different sewing feet, needle set, 4 bobbin, screwdriver, darning plate, foot controller, and an instructional DVD. I enjoy using this sewing machine to mend our clothes and do sewing projects/crafts around the house. All the features make it so much easier and faster to complete!
I bought this machine about 6-7 years ago when I first began sewing medieval clothing. After 7 years, I have never had to have major work on it, maybe 2 tune ups that I was able to do myself with some verbal assistance from a friend with expertise. It still works like a charm and works with all sorts of threads and fabrics. VERY satisfied with my pruchase.
So easy to use. And light weight which is great for a senior citizen. Not to mention very affordable.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a pretty cool machine. It looks very well built and.its not the lightest but.it works great. Totally worth it. My mom loves to use it since she uses this kind very often. It would be cool to have a lot more colors though
Can this machine hold up to quilting activities? I bought it to fill in for a confidence quilter that finally quit. I like the stitches and the smoothness of operation. I have been sewing and quilting for 60 years so for the price, this machine is great. Mechanical machines are much more reliable than the computerized ones. They are lso tougher.
While I am really enjoying this basic sewing machine, I've realized what I need most is a needle threader attachment and just cannot find one for my "new" (month old) sewing machine. There are a lot of great videos and tutorials online for this model that helped me in the beginning - sending a DVD with it is kind of dumb today as most PCs don't come with a drive anymore and it wasn't useful. Overall, this gets a 4 rating from me because it is really good for what it is, a basic sewing machine without advanced stitches. If anyone knows of a needle threader for it, I wish they'd let me know lol
Sews well, but now and then the thread bundles up underneath. I have made sure it is threaded correctly and bobbin is inserted correctly and threaded.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product free from Brother for my honest opinion on the quality of this product. First off it is very light weight and easy to move around. I really like that since I don't have a permanent place to leave it set up. Instructions are fairly easy to follow. I still had some difficulty in threading this machine. It runs nicely and does a good job on light and heavy fabrics.
The thread frequently bunches up. I cannot sew a hem for jeans without a brand new denim needle breaking. I tried sewing a waist for a pair of jeans and it did HORRIBLE. The machine is not consistent at all, it kept stopping and i had to manually spin the wheel thing until it was able to start sewing again. The stiches arent even consistent either.
