Great Value Hearts of Palm are truly a great value. We high speed blend them and it makes a delicious pudding. It is great cold with canned sardines or canned mackerel or just as is. Now and then one of the hearts is too fibrous to eat. I just collect them in one of the cans and keep it in the refrigerator. When I get a full can I request a refund on a can due to poor quality. On occasion I am asked to return it to the store, but most of the time a refund is granted with no questions asked. This is very fair. I've never been refused a refund.
These are actually very healthy for you. My mom would put them on our Thanksgiving relish trays growing up. Hadn't eaten them in awhile. I found them again and live them more now than before. Great on salads, or cold from the fridge in place of cheese sticks. If you're curious about the flavor, it can resemble mozzarella cheese sticks, but some also say its kind of a cross between asparagus and cabbage maybe? I know I just love them!
It's crazy that the reviews people leave are solely on the condition of the can? Go to the store and buy directly if you're having trouble getting a can with no dents. I got mine with the Walmart delivery service same day. All 3 cans were free of dents. Now the actual product is very good and the price can't be beat. Other brands and other stores are double and triple the price which I'm not doing. We are Dominican and used for a particular dish simply called palmito guisado. Drained and rinsed twice and placed in a pot with boiling water. After a few minutes and it was fork tender, it was ready to be used as the recipe calls for. Great texture and flavor and an overall great buy! Thank you Walmart, you never disappoint!
Great Value put what used to be a luxury item into the "staple" category with its pricing for hearts of palm. I love them in warm or cold pasta dishes or salads and they're wonderful in green salads. I try to keep a can or two in my pantry. Though I have not tried many of the more creative suggested uses for them, I understand that they're a great vegan, no-carb addition to an array of main dishes, too. If you've not tried them, they have a mild artichoke type flavor with none of the woodiness.
I am so addicted to these! They are a perfect low carb , filling, hearty snack and go to when I have a craving for something "briny/nutty". I go through at least 6 cans a week!
Definitely a good deal. You can use them in so many ways and recipes. Just add a dressing, mix with proteins for quick sauté and precut for quick cooking. On my repeat list.
I love hearts of Palm. I got this as a 3-pack, but only received 2. I realized too late, so I took the loss. Flavor is good. I can't comment on shelf life since it doesn't last that long in my house. The only issue I have with this brand is the sodium is very high. Not sure why. Other than that, I would buy it again
For the price I recommend the hearts of palm. Their texture is not consistent, nor is the size of the heart. The flavor is okay. The calorie count is wonderful!
I actually love this product. I've had them before and will buy again, but only in-store purchasing from now on. However, it is a MUST that you purchase these in person so you can inspect the cans. The cans are more times than not in very poor condition. I have ordered them for delivery and every can, and I mean every can has come so badly dented that I feel they are unsafe to eat. Also, cans should be firm, and, again, ALL the cans I get are so soft that they give under the slightest pressure. WHY is that?? Is that normal? I will be returning these. SHOPPERS, first of all, I APPRECIATE YOU...BUT please don't pick items that you wouldn't buy for yourself. That's regarding ANY product. Even if you dont eat like or buy them. I'm saying "IF" you did, would you buy a can so badly dented without any care? I doubt it. Thank you!
All three cans had huge dents in them. Got to wonder if they're all dented on the shelf or if they pulled these out because I wouldn't notice until I was already home with the dented cans. Guess I'll just stick to only ordering distilled water which seems to be fine one way or the other 😑
