My great-grandparents were German immigrants. My Great-Grandpap Al made his own sauerkraut in their root cellar. Growing up with homemade sauerkraut, my Granny was particular about the brands of store bought ones. This is a Granny-approved brand. Leftovers (if any) keep well in the refrigerator. Seriously, though, leftover sauerkraut? Inconceivable! Sauerkraut was a staple at family gatherings. Everyone knew to get it before my cousin Rae or I, otherwise there might not be any left. If we had guests who said they didn't like sauerkraut, Granny would ask "What kind of German are you?" If they said they weren't German she'd reply "That doesn't matter! What kind of German are you to not like sauerkra weut!" If you were a guest at a meal with us, you were honorary German. I know this is more anecdotal than a review but my family takes sauerkraut seriously.

Former John always has wonderful products high-quality, but you guys have raised your prices so much in the last year and a half. It's not fair to us poor people.

Great taste. I have purchased it many times. And will continue to purchase this brand. I like that it's in a jar and not in a plastic jug or not in a tin can.

I usually by the bag, tried this for spareribs in the crockpot, was very good not to sour and cooked well, didnt dry out or scorch. Just the right amount of liquid. also in a nice large jar.

Great sauerkraut! Get it all the time works awesome with Rubens , pork roast, or Brotz. It's crispy and wonderful cooked especially with bacon lol

For a special dish of pork ribs, stove top stuffing, and a jar of sauerkraut. In a slow cooker until ribs done. Hard to beat!

Be Sure to cook it on simmer or lower for about an hour. This is raw cabbage in a brine and has to be cooked. It is delicious if you like sauerkraut. I love it with Polish sausage.

This used to be WAY better back when they were locally owned (Portland, Oregon) but went downhill some when they were sold to Dean Foods. It's still ok, best used with a recipe rather than eaten out of the jar like I used to do! Value is OK on sale.
