Great Piece to have!

XXXaaa October 7, 2014

If you have a bay to stick this in you would do well to buy one. It's reasonably priced, actually cheap. I use it to clone my System hard drive once in a while in case it goes down. Handles any size hard drive that you machine will accept gigabyte wise. Has to be 3.5 wide but but will handle any Sata gigs that your computer can read. I love it! I've used it to transfer data also. I have 4 of these in different computers. 2 at home and 2 at work. 1 in each Server we have at work. 1 Dell 2950 for a File Server and 1 T620 for a Domain Server. There are no drivers to install. It just gives you access to a Sata Drive without opening the box. Usually have to goto Devices and Rescan for new hardware when you put in. Just pop out when done. It's Hot Swap.No wires, just an access door! What more could you ask for!

Exactly what I was looking for

Spud52 May 17, 2016

Easy to install, sturdy construction, provides a convenient way to swap hard drives. Have ordered 2 more for my other computers.

A great tool if you need to recover or move data!

gcapp99 June 29, 2012

Pretty simple really- install in an available 5.25" bay, connect SATA power & data cables and you're done. I have it connected as drive E, leaving my original C drive as my boot disk and my DVD drive as "D"; I found a free HotSwap utility on g00gle to make my installation complete. I can change drives anytime FAST!

Easy removal.

I like this device because it makes it so easy to swap drives out instead of unscrewing the computer case all the time. It's also nice because you could have another hard drive for family and frends to use and your infomation is safely hiden in your special place so no one can see or take your files.

Great product

Mikie April 1, 2017

I have been using this rack for well over a year and it has worked great for me. Easy to install and use, I have built computers and RAID for a few years now and I have 2 of these and plan on getting more. I am a electrical contractor and I do not give high praise alot but I do on this one. If you have any trouble with this I would say check other components first. I use a lot of startech products and I have No problem with any.

Can't be beat!

Limey January 22, 2015

Just installed and using it in minutes. It's standard StarTech construction, which is better than most generic equipment but down a grade from a factory HP or Dell item. Only beef is that the insertion rating is listed at 50,000 on the website but only 10,000 in the manual. At one insertion per week that's a difference of 700 years, I'm not happy!

Drive lite Connection

R2D2 May 22, 2018

The product is as defined, it works great with any of the various brands of SATA HDD's. I have it installed in an older HP 6000 Pro Core 2 Duo, E7600, however I can not determine where to connect the Tray lite. Unfortunately, the bezel lite on the case is module that does not match the tray cable.

Well built, works perfectly.

Lars July 9, 2012

It installs just like a 5-1/4" drive and just works. The lock isn't anything close to secure (it's the same as all the cheap computer locks-my Antec case key opens it and it opens my case), but it will keep the little kids from messing with it. If locking it is important to you, get something else or put the whole computer in a secured box. This mount did exactly what I wanted when I bought it. No surprises and no disappointments.

POOR DESIGN

MRGRIZZ August 16, 2016

I HAVE BOUGHT 2 SO FAR BOTH HAD THE SAME PROBLEM THE PLACE WHERE THE HDD CONNECTS TO, IS FRAGILE THE SIDE THAT THE SATA CABLE CONNECTS TO IS VERY EASILY BROKEN I BROKE BOTH OF MINE WITH HARDLY A TOUCH IF YOU LOOK CLOSE YOU'LL SEE THE SATA PORT IS NOT SUPPORTED AND IT'S ONLY SUPPORTED BY A WEAK TINNY PIECE OF PLASTIC THIS IS A WELL KNOWN FLAW AND IT IS DELIBERATE IT'S BEEN REPORTED AND THIS IS NOT A HOT SWAP YOU CAN DAMAGE A HDD BY REMOVING IT WHILE THE POWER IS ON A TRUE HOT SWAP HAS A POWER BUTTON

Fails on large transfers.

HankB December 30, 2021

I disagree that this product cannot cause problems for HDD. I had one that repeatedly locked up while trying to transfer a 2.7TB data set to an 8TB and 12TB HDD. The result of the lockup is remapped sectors reported in SMART statistics. This happened with both drives, both of which performed the same operation on another system without difficulty. Further, if I bypass the tray and connect directly to the HDD (same SATA cable and power connector) the operation completes without difficulty. OK for small file transfers but bad news for large transfers.
