Before opening the can, it was important to note that this product was packed in Alaska. After opening the can, the odor was of fresh canned salmon WITHOUT any of the decomposing fishy smell that similar canned salmon TYPICALLY has when caught and packed in the asian countries.
I don't know if something's wrong with me - maybe I was a cat in a past life? - but I love this stuff. I open a can, add a fork, put it in the fridge, and just nibble every time I go by there. Lots of tasty protein, and if I had the money I'd keep my pantry stocked with this stuff. And crackers and cheese.
I never had Simon in a can, but I have to tell you I loved loved loved it. It tastes good and had a nice texture and you can even make like a tuna fish out of it. Do the same way you make tuna fish, and maybe a little cheese, delicious, and good for you.
Walmart's Great Value brand Salmon is a good purchase. It's priced reasonably and I never have any complaints about the product inside the can. I hope my extended family at our Family Reunion enjoy my Salmon Patties this year. They request for me to bring them every year! Thanks for the good product!
its canned salmon. its not gonna be fresh salmon. keep that in mind. there are bones. mostly vertabre that are very easy to pick out. there is skin. all the fish is cooked. it has a little bit of water. not much. there are large chunks with some " this and that" salmon. its not smoked or salted. no spices. this is perfect for salmon patties. just pick through it before prep. great in soup stew, cheese, patties, salad sammichez. just ad your creativity. perfect shelf staple. handy 4 pack. good nitrition. healrhy it is exactly what you get with a canned salmon. good
I buy canned salmon because we love salmon stew. it's full of amazing omega 3s. however, I tried the great value brand and I was so disappointed. it was full of bones and skin. I've had Aldi, double Q...all great with barely any discard (we don't like the skin or bones), but the GV brand had so many that I ended up having to use 3 cans instead of my normal 2. with the price of groceries it makes this salmon way more expensive than the others..unless you like the skin and bones, then this is for you. blegh!
so many little tiny bones in this, you have to use a fork and spend a solid 5-10min with a magnifying glass and pick them all out.. not easy to see dented cans too.. feels like walmart puts the dented cans they find in the store to the side to sell to online shoppers maybe? idk over $200 of various can foods and literally 1/3 of it was dented up
I was absolutely disgusted when I first opened the can. As soon as the lid came off, I looked in and it was filled with spinal cords, bones, skin, etc. It looks similar to something that they stripped the salmon off the bone and threw the bone in the can. Being adventurous (more like stupid), I thought I would try a taste of it. Let's just say my stomach did not appreciate it and it came right up after it went down. I thought I was just being sensitive so I let my poor dog try a little bit of it - let's just say she had the same results. I do not recommend the tall cans of this salmon brand, because every single can that I opened up afterwards was the same way. Sad thing is I purchased 12 cans of it. I won't ever buy this brand again. I truly think this should be pulled off of the shelves and not served to any human or any creature. Perhaps it could be used as fertilizer for your crops is the only thing that I could see that it would have great value on - just make sure you don't live in Bear country. However, I don't even think even a bear would eat it.
I buy and like many Great Value products. This was a very disappointing purchase. The can was full of an extreme amount of bones and skin, as well as an unappealing color. I can't tell you my opinion of taste because I didn't use it. It was a waste of money and food for me. The extra $1 is worth the name brand and enjoying the salmon.
The website description shows that this GV brand of Alaskan Pink canned Salmon is 1. MSC Certified and 2. Packed in Thailand. What I actually received was canned salmon named the same on the label, 1. Packed in Alaska and 2. NO MSC Certified logo. Label graphics "Great for You" Am I supposed to take Walmart's word for the certification? Bait and switch?
