This is a highly recommended trimmer which not only it is small and handy but it works great on 2 x AA batteries. Despite of it being small and powered by battery, it did a great job in trimming the hair close and possibly short and clean, just liked shaving using a razor. Great for travellers where you can trim it anytime and anywhere without the need to look for a power socket on the wall!
It's very, very small and uses primary batteries, so it's perfect for travelling.Rechargeables are not ideal for travel because something will always go wrong ? you'll forget to pack the charger, loose the charger, or deliberately won't pack the charger to save space but the battery will run down. With this trimmer, you'll never have to worry. There are five length settings ? I wish there were more fine adjustment possible.
Bought one of these in 1997. Recently it popped its clogs. I was so pleased leased to see Panasonic makes this same model given all the choices out there. I didnt hesitate to buy another one. Testimony to its durability and build quality. An excellent tool, all someone with facial hair needs.
I bought one of these back in 2002 for use while working in the rain forest of Central America. Rechargeable ones were useless since we had no power.I bought another after the first stopped working after nearly 20 years. After the new one arrived, I took apart the old one and it looked fine. I recurved the battery contact tabs, and it started working again! Now I have a backup, but I dont know as if Ill ever need it!
Good, easy to use. Plain and simple.I looked for a mustache trimer and got multiple hits on beard and mustache trimers at ridiculous prices just for trimming and thinning out my mustache. I have a mustache only and gets thick. This will thin it out and trim it, in seconds with no multiple attachments and costs.
For 25 years, I used a trimmer (Panasonic Rechargeable ER389) that looks almost identical to this one (Panasonic ER 240B).Both had been marketed side-by-side until suddenly Panasonicwithdrew from the market the rechargeable version (ER 389).No explanation.I loved the rechargeable version for many reasons including the fact that it no charging base or cords to lose but a simple slide-out US standard 2-flat-prong plug so you could just plug it straight into any wall outlet. The ONLY downside to this model was that it 110v only and twice on trips outside the U.S., I forgot and fried the internal transform by plugging it into a 240v supply and so I had to replace it.After the withdrawal from the market of the ER 389, I bought (and discarded a slew of beard trimmers most costing considerably more than the R 389).None of them worked well for me.They generally come with a slew of different "combs" for different beard lengths and these tend to get lost, break easily, and often they'd fall off the trimmer while in use (brands were Wahl, Solo, Norelco, & Braun)!Eventually a couple of weeks ago, I decided to research the market again, hoping that Panasonic had seen the error of its ways and returned the ER 289 to the marketplace.Sadly, it hasn't.Although I was looking for a rechargeable, I figured I didn't have much to lose by trying this ER 240B.What I can say is that this will remain my 2nd choice after the ER 389 but 1st choice after the other brands and models I've tried.Pros: The AA batteries are easy to find worldwide so travel is actually easier as you don't need to carry a voltage converter (the ER 239 was the only reason I used to so since most small appliances now allow for use on a range of 110v-240v).Compared to the other brands and models I've tried, this is alot more convenient, having a sliding comb that never needs to be removed except for cleaning. It's the most ergonomically-designed with an intuitively-positioned on-off switch.Cons: It's not rechargeable. This ER 240B is not as solidly built as the ER 389 was.Time will tell if the blades last as long as the very long-lasting cutting blades on the ER 389.It's alot more expensive than what I paid for the ER 389.
Love the fact it's actually made in Japan. Super high build quality and works great. The only reason for removing a star is that with the guard removed, it doesn't cut quite as close as some other trimmers I've had. The main advantage with this for me is it takes batteries and isn't rechargeable.
This trimmer is relatively inexpensive and doesnt rely on any sort of proprietary soddered in rechargeable battery which is nice because those tend to fail and arent replaceable..this trimmer takes a couple AA batteries which is nice though for the price replacement wouldn't be much of an issue.I use the thing to trim my whiskers when i go without shaving for a couple weeks so I use it without any attachments. The whiskers do catch and it can be unpleasant when you are not being careful. But I think for the time being it beats spending over100$ on some expensive electric shaver whose 'rechargeable' battery will die and wont be able to be replaced. This thing is small and if you lose it it is no big deal.
Small, and not very powerful. Preferred the older model with wider head
This Panasonic, battery-powered beard/mustache trimmer was much smaller than it appeared in the product photo. It is literally "tiny"- even though it requires 2AA batteries to operate. And unfortunately, mine (which appeared to be a 'returned' item) di not work; despite trying (2) sets of new batteries (installed in every possible way). So, I returned it.
