I have Celiac disorder so I can't eat anything with gluten. Flour being a food I had to cut out. Most gluten-free foods that I have tried are terrible. I tried several different brands of gluten free breads but the only one that is good is Schar Gluten Free Artisan Baker Multigrain Sourdough. I always have eaten 100% wheat or a mixture of whole wheat and seeds. I will never waste my money on any other brand of gluten free bread. I will stay with the Schar brand. It makes great toast!
I have been buying loaves of Schar's bread for years n' years, at this point!! I did try a couple different brands, but for taste, texture, quality, even the shelf life (altho it *is* still shorter than gluten-bread's!), so far Schar's is genuinely just the best there is, to me!! I've used it for grilled cheese (pictured: zoom for texture! Pic also ft. Progresso's tomato-basil soup) with *excellent* results, as well as for homemade paninis!! It's even good without toasting or buttering, like for various sandwiches (chicken breast chunks, ham slices, tunafish), or with chocolate-hazelnut spread and banana slices! [[ Those are especially impressive, 'cause I have always kinda hated the texture of bread, ahahaha; but, with Schar's, I now really enjoy these! ]] In fact, I can even use it for french toast, too!! ♥︎ I wanna try more, like garlic toast, or homemade croutons, but have not gotten around to them yet, oops! Also, Schar's does NOT get soggy easily!! %26%26 altho that means I gotta use a smidge more condiments/sauce than I might otherwise, that is still a *HUGE* Plus to me! Simply *too many* GF breads will just fall apart, if even a teensy-bit damp, so stuff like french toast, or adding pickles to my tunafish sandwich mix, would become a total Non-Option if I used other GF bread brands!! Honestly?? My only gripe would be the price per loaf, particularly since it is (slightly) smaller / more compact slices than glutinous bread, with a shorter loaf. You just get less food at a higher price point! [[ Of course, I do recognize how that's par for the course for most Gluten-Free options (I have Celiac, so those are my *only* options, y'know??), but I think I'd be eating way, WAY more sandwiches, if it was just a li'l cheaper, haha!! Like, maybe about $4 bucks is what I'd *personally* price it at! ¯\_(ツ )_/¯ ]] My final note: Might be worth mentioning? My brother strongly prefers their multi-grain variant of this!! He *most* likes the TASTE better, although the multi-grain also scores extra points for texture with him, too. He does *like* this'un here, well-enough, *but*!! Meanwhile, I'm the opposite, where the multi-grain is just Okay™ for me; still better than other GF bread brands, but i have a hands-down Preference for this product here!! So, it may be worth trying both for you n' yours?? Although fair warning, i also prefer this white bread over Schar's multi-grain, 'cause the multi-grain seems to speed up my digestion a li'l *too much*, if yanno what I mean!! (Oof!) But the local bowels handle the white bread great, so it is an Easy Choice for me! :)
As the mom of a child with PKU, I’m psyched with Walmart’s assortment of both gluten free %26 vegan products. We’ve tried many different types of GF bread…and quite a few have a chewy texture. This bread actually tastes like “real” sourdough…and can be eaten without toasting/warming-even if it’s been in the fridge! That is my only complaint (aside from it being a bit pricey, esp at other stores!)-both the Schar sourdough bread %26 the hot dog buns will mold fairly quickly if not refrigerated after opening. If I know my daughter isn’t going to take a sandwich to school every day (fall break, etc), I’ll open the loaf and freeze 1/2 of it. Otherwise I’ll move it the fridge if I know it’s going to get used. Overall a great gluten free product (Schar pizza shells are great too!)
I'm on a low protein diet and this bread is a lifesaver! It is really satisfying and tastes great. It toasts up well and is yummy with avocado! I really enjoy being able to make a sandwich with this bread...I use cooked carrots, sweet potato, turnips, etc. with lettuce and onions and mustard instead of meat and have a nice, big sandwich!
Im just starting to go gluten free and this bread is amazing. Yes the bread slices are smaller than normal bread and it's slightly pricey but that doesnt change my mind about buying this product again. Honestly makes me feel better about having to go gluten free.
For gluten free bread, you’d have no idea it was. It’s not heavy, it’s quite light. Toasts great and the size of the pieces aren’t bad! I enjoy bread but I don’t eat a ton especially being GF but I am now obsessed with this bread. I have sandwiches now, toast with eggs, even cinnamon toast. I keep buying and continue to be happy.
Delivered on 12/04/2025 with an expiration date of 05/30/2025. It’s garbage. My shopper didn’t check the date, which is why men should NOT be shoppers. This is how people get sick from food they buy from supermarkets. This also means nobody checked this item since at least the Spring.
This is an excellent gluten free bread, so this review is about Walmart! It's a constant effort for people intolerant to gluten to find products in fresh condition. The Walmart where I shop is neglectful of their gluten free breads. They are stuffed onto lower shelves, not replaced once expired and take considerable time digging through the bread products. It's always more of a hunt than just selecting. The loaves and other breads are often crushed. One day I found bags opened presumably by customers left open. This department seems to be the orphan department of neglect and questionable safety. Other breads are well organized, take up an entire side of the aisle while gluten free breads are relegated to pigeon hole status. This is not right! These products cost substantially more than regular breads! Yet they are usually a big mess of mixed products seemingly under neglect! Shame on Walmart!
When I got home and was ready to make a sandwich with the bread, I opened it up, and there was mold on it already. Nasty! I had just come home from the store. This is ridiculous.
At the end of a long day, all I want has to come home and eat a nice PB%26J sandwich. Normally my wife bakes gluten-free bread however today we decided to try this brand and let me tell you it was awful. Not only was it 1/8 the size of a normal bread but also 10 times the cost it also tasted like cardboard it was under baked and had holes in it. Talk about a depressing day to come home and have a horrible sandwich due to a horrible alpha bread. I will never eat sharp products again and neither should you. You would think that a huge gluten-free company like this would be able to make a decent gluten-free product. My wife can put together a normal size loaf of bread with a great flavor in a few minutes and she's not even a baker. i will never eat schar products again and neither should you. Please refer to the images to see the underbaked bread and holes in the bread.
