We don't get any time to use an item before being asked for a review anymore. We used to have at least a week or even two before reviewing, but I just received this one an hour ago and already was told to review it. It works great. It's easier to light with a lighter than with matches, and it lights easy with one of those fire strike thingies. I don't know how durable it is as of yet, but after using it for an hour, I like it and recommend it.

This is the heat. Took away the time spent coaxing whatever you can find to get a fire started. The building of a fire can be a pain when you don't have the right materials. I only used it once so far and I am sold. I put this down, kindling around it and split logs leaning over, all in a pyramid shape. I used a magnesium starter and the shreds fired right up, before long I had a full on fire. Easy peasy. This at the base, kindling and aged split logs, you can't go wrong. Take the guess work out of it and bring the right stuff to the party. This being the most important part to a successful fire.

The tinder shreds will resist most moisture and water as the pine wood shavings are coated with paraffin wax – which also helps them to burn a bit longer once ignited. With an 8-minute burn time – these tinder shreds will give you ample time to get the home fire burning – even if your firewood is a bit damp. Lightweight, inexpensive, easy to pack, ignite quickly, stay dry – you can't ask for a better tinder source especially out on the cold wet inhospitable trail. Will even light with either a dedicated flame from a lighter – or even from your magnesium rod spark source – or other caveman tools! All natural wood shavings and wax coating – so they're environmentally friendly too! Suggested use is 2-3 Zippo Tinder Shreds stacked on each other with light kindling over that – then add your larger pieces of firewood.

These (Zippo Tinder Shreds) are just the ticket for any camper/survivalist. Zippo, in my opinion, have been manufacturing quality products for a long time, ever since they produced their first zippo lighter back in 1933. Although I've camped a bit here and there, funny thing is for me, even if I'm using some dry paper and a lighter, starting a good fire is not as simple as it sounds. One of the main benefits that I personally like about this product is the fact that its water resistant. Although I've not tested this product under any sort of extreme weather conditions, I'd venture to say it would hold-up nicely if packed correctly for the outdoors. My wife and I occasionally build a fire in the backyard, all I can say is now I'm glad to have these Zippo tinder shreds, and yes, I'd recommend them for anyone that enjoys the great outdoors to carry these wherever you go. Throughout my research on this product, since you do need to use some type of ignition source such as, spark or flame, zippo does offer a Zippo mag strike that would go nicely with this product if purchasing it as a gift or for yourself. Just search online at Walmart for it. Some highlights:  Water-resistant  Easy to carry  They light quickly  Burn time of up to 8 minutes Walmart by the way, in my opinion, is much better than that other place that charges a membership fee, just to ship within 2 days (all the while their priming only revenue). Walmart ships within 2 days, and with no membership charges! I order online from Walmart all the time, so much nicer than standing in lines and loading-up carts.

Zippo Tinder Shreds work great! If you are a hiker, backpacker or camper these little bundles of tinder can be a lifesaver! At the very least allow you to have a hot trail meal on a wet night! The tinder shreds take a spark and light very readily. They are a great item to have in your outdoor kit. When you can't find anything to get a fire going, these make starting a fire easy. Now that I've tried them, I will always have some in my pack!

I like this product. I am not a fan of lighter fluid which is what the man of the house uses for every fire he starts outside. This is safer and not smelly. 10 come in the package. You need to use more than one if you aren't using any additional kindling. They are not really large. I took some pictures next to my mouse to show their size. These would fit easily in a pocket for a camping trip. They claim to be water resistant but I haven't had the opportunity to test that part. I would recommend these for anyone looking for a safer way of starting a campfire.

I recently chose to receive the Zippo Tinder Shreds to review as part of the Walmart Sparkreviewer program. The product arrived in great condition packaged inside a small packing box. The Tinder Shreds come in a package of 10 encased in a resealable plastic bag. ‘Resealable' means that the plastic bag has a little strip of sticky substance across one side, which is supposed to stick to the bag flap. It works, for the most part, but it doesn't hold well. I would make sure to store these in a separate plastic bag with a better seal. Each shred is approximately a 2x1 inch roll and is made of shredded pine. The packaging states that the tinder shreds are water resistant (not water proof so be aware of this). I tested the tinder shreds on an indoor fireplace and our outdoor fire pit. I prepared the fire as I do every time with some stacked kindling on the bottom and some medium sized logs tented above it. I generally use newspaper to start the fire and I was curious to see how this product would work. I placed the tinder shred on a flat piece of kindling in the middle of the tented wood and lit with a lighter. The tinder shred caught fire very quickly and produced a nice sized flame. It burned for just under 8 minutes, which was sufficient enough time for the fire to catch. It was a little windy when I tested it in the outside fire pit, but the tinder shred stayed lit. All in all, I find this product to be very clever, clean, quick and helpful. While these are great to use in an indoor fireplace I believe they would be most beneficial to use when camping, where the chance of kindling and matches being damp are higher. I will probably continue to use this product just for the convenience of it. I would recommend this product to others.

The Zippo Tinder Shreds work fairly well. I use them in conjunction with kindling to light logs in the fireplace. They do light well although the flame is somewhat small and you need to use more than one shredded pine roll. You can actually use them without kindling. The pine roll does last several minutes, and that's a plus, to allow the flames to ignite your fire. I also used them in a fire pit outdoors and a charcoal grille. But, again, you need to use three or more. I'm not sure what a package of them cost but they are handy to pack away and use on a camping trip. You hunters will find them handy too. They are less clumsy then a box of kindling and save space when you are carrying a lot of gear on your outing. I like the fact that they do burn for several minutes so that I don't need to keep stuffing newspapers and kindling on the fire to get it started. We actually used it for ambiance while sitting on the patio and had a Zippo firestarter in a small fireproof holder. Yes, I recommend them and submit a positive review.

I got these Zippo Tinder Shreds to help light my back yard fires. The problem was right after I received them the next 3 weeks was rain or snow almost every day in mid Michigan in November. Each weekend I would get a burn permit then it would rain or snow. Finally on December 2 after raining the night before the snow was gone and the sun was shining. As soon as I got the pile set here comes more rain for about an hour. Late afternoon clears up so even though I didn't think it would work I had to try. Even though it was garden debris I used 6 of the shreds but no go. Just too wet. So even though I do believe they might work, I can't say they will on dry or even damp material but they will not work on wet material.

These zippo tinder shreds would be very helpful to someone who loves to go camping to start some campfires. I really enjoy having bonfires! The scent of the wood and fire beats nothing else! I will bring this next time to a gathering to make it that much easier to start a fire. Just more time to enjoy some quality bonding memories while enjoying being outside in nature! I think that there should be more of them in this package especially if you have to use a few of these to initially start it! So that knocks off a star for me. I am excited to know that Zippo has more products out there because it's a popular brand name we all know. I wish I would have gotten these before winter started as it would be perfect for fall. I have heard good things about these Zippo tinder shreds from people who have used them. This would be a nice stocking stuffer for someone that would make use of tinder shreds. The package is nice and I like that you can see right through it to know how it actually looks. These are my honest opinions in exchange for having this product sent to me.
