what a workhouse of a great lawn tool. wish I had tried this years ago. May thatch problem is gone

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this to de-thatch my well-established fescue in order to prep for a fall overseed. Installation was simple and directions were clear and easy to follow. The results were great. This thing ripped out all the thatch no problem. Highly recommend!

My dethatcher arrived within one week of ordering. It was surprisingly easy to assemble with clear instructions and illustrations. I found it easy to level with my garden tractor. My first project was prepping one-half acre of meadow for wildflower seeding. It worked great. I used bungee cords to strap on some extra weight to increase dethatching and to slightly till soil. Tip for transporting the device to work site once leveled: I have a garden dump cart for pulling behind my garden tractor. It is ideal for carrying the dethatcher. The tines cradle nicely over the sides of the cart, plus I can carry any additional tools I may need. I am very happy with this product and would purchase it again.

A great price of equipment. I was impressed with the sturdiness of the prices and very easy to assemble. I was impressed with the job that it did dethatching my lawn. I can say this is the first time using it but if it continues to impress each time I use it, I will consider this a great purchase.

I own several pieces of Brinly lawn care equipment, so it was an easy decision when I was looking for a dethatcher. All of their stuff is well built and works flawlessly. Be prepared to bag up a LOT of dead grass after one pass with this dethatcher! It really works well, and is competitively priced.

I received this dethatcher about a week ago. Was able to put it together by myself in about 45 minutes and with a socket wrench. The pin to attach to my Cub Cadet mower was included and attachment was easy. I used it once to pull up some matted down leaves from last fall and mulched cuttings on the lawn using the tallest setting possible and no weight. It pulled up a good deal and worked as I had hoped. With a weight and setting the tines further down relative to the wheels I feel I should likely approximate the outcomes I had when using an electric plug in dethatcher, but this will go a lot quicker. The build is sturdy. One feature which would be nice would be to somehow raise the tines when transporting from say the garage to the lawn, as the tines scrape along the way. Not a big deal, especially given I'll probably use to start the spring and to overseed in the fall, but some way to lift the setup would be helpful. Otherwise, I view this as a great value and it's exactly what I was looking for at a solid price. Would highly recommend Brinly Hardy name (this is my first purchase of anything from them), and the dethatcher.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This dethatcher works as advertised, it does a great job getting getting up the thatch. It's amazing how much actually comes up after even just one pass. As far as how well it works I would give it a 5 stars. The down side is that it doesn't have a travel mode so you you are not able to pull it with out the tines dragging on the ground, so I have to pull it myself from shed to the grass. Also the directions aren't the best and it's a bit of a pain to assemble. It does work great though.

While the 480BH pull-behind dethatcher is not as effective as a power tine dethatcher, it works quite well, especially considering the price. Instructions for assembly are rather simple, though you may need to focus on the illustrations help to ensure correct orientation of some of the parts. It took a few extra minutes to manually set the correct height of the implement after hooking it up to my 4-wheeler, but the instructions for this part were straight forward. Keep in mind this is not an on-the-fly adjustable unit, rather you manually adjust the height, then tighten all the bolts. Since I only plan on using this piece of equipment on my lawn, I don't anticipate needing to make adjustments in the future. Overall, for the price, this is a well built and stable implement that will likely last quite a few years. It did remove a considerable amount of thatch from my 3/4 acre lawn. I recommend using a couple of rubber bungee cords to strap a couple concrete blocks on top of the unit to help keep the tines down into the lawn and avoid bouncing on rougher lawns. The ensures this implement works even more effectively. Would definitely recommend it for someone on a budget that wants a decently effective dethatcher.

Assembly wasn't much fun! Opened the bags of nuts, bolts, etc and separated into piles. I was missing one bolt. Didn't bother contacting manufacturer to replace. Luckily I found a replacement at home. As far as the function it did a good job. Will use again next spring...

Used it today in our 5 acre pasture. Good quality steel, tines hardware. The wheel assembly instructions are incorrect though. If you follow them, the wheels won't turn/roll freely. Easy fix though. The weight tray has three distinct sections…unfortunately, only the two outside sections will fit concrete blocks…the middle section is too short. Also, sides are not tall enough to keep the blocks from falling out-had to use bungee cords to hold them in. Overall, glad I purchased it. Transporting is easily done by simply attaching the unit tines up-nice feature. I like the Brinly brand.
