48” Tow-Behind Dethatcher | DT-480BH

I recently purchased this dethatcher and it worked well. It saved me a lot of money by not having to pay a company to dethatch the yard. I went over the yard in both directions. The 48 inch model was helpful when working on a larger yard. It took a few hours to finish my 2 acre property and then a few hours to sweep up the thatch. I used a yard sweeper that I pulled behind my John Deere zero turn. I wound up piling up between 20-25 large wheelbarrows full of old grass. I would suggest doing this once a year if possible if you cut your lawn all year and let the clippings lay. I recommend this dethatcher at a very reasonable price. Assembly took just under 2 hours by myself and the instructions were easy to follow.

Purchased several weeks ago. Assembly was relatively simple and the unit is strong and well made. The tines are thicker than units I have owned in the past. I have already dethatched an acre of turf with superior results. Very satisfied with purchase. - Wynslow -

I just used this today, You will need to adjust the depth, Takes 2 minutes. Fits under My rear Plastic catcher, its 3 bin. Easy to store just hang it on the shed wall. I dethatch My yard every Spring, I used Professional Lawn care service until this year, After raking the Yard Twice then Mowing in 2nd Gear pick up all the Clippings equal the professional service JOB.

This thing is great and a back lifesaver. Worked well to thin thatch and dig a bit in so I could ruffle a bit of topsoil to seed better for spring. It was just a bag of parts and a nut was missing! THAT is a pain! Luckily I had one. Also the instructions are not efficient. It says to put all the tines on and then step 3 and 4 you cannot get at the screw areas to tighten everything in those steps because the tines are on. It would not affect anything at all if putting the tines on was after what they have as step 3 and 4. 3 and 4 should be done first or at least do the tines in the screw areas for the other parts afterwards and put those tines in last. Missing parts in products are irritating!

Was looking for a tool like this to help promote the lawn growth and the product seemed like a good fit. Having 2.5 acres of lawn I wanted the 48 in to make a dent in the task. Assembly was pretty easy until i ran into a problem in which the box contained two left had end plate, but a call to customer service and BAM that guy got the correct piece sent out in like 2 days!! Really appreciate the fast response. Finished assembly and went to work. It's a beast, and setting the depth at the recommended depth was pretty spot on. In short…. Got the entire yard done, the spread out a bunch of grass seed and a nice rain followed that evening. PERFECT ! Pulling it with a 52in Gravley ZTR. Buy it ! You should be happy. Think I created a monster because my wife really enjoyed the process and she kept me busy emptying the junk it pulled up..

I have previously owned this same detacher 42 in model for 10 years. It was very durable and did an excellent job removing dead , matted down grass from my lawn. With the purchase of a new house with a larger lawn, I upgraded to the 48 in model. I placed a cinder block on both ends to provide the appropriate downforce and it made quick work of a large area. This dethatcher came with all of the needed parts and was easy to assemble. It has all of the necessary adjustments to attach to any lawn tractor hitch.

I recently purchased this for use with my Gravely ZT HD mower. Assembly was fairly straightforward (I ended up being short 1 washer) and the instructions for adjusting the height worked perfectly. I dethatched my yard and it worked quite well. Other reviewers suggested doing two passes in different directions and I found this worked well. Overall I am very pleased.

Before retirement I never had time or ambition to tackle lawn chores that everyone needs to constantly consider. Now time is a little more abundant and I chose this 48 inch dethatcher to tow behind my 52 inch John Deere lawn tractor and without attaching extra weight on top of this attachment, it brought up years of dead grass and gave the soil more air to breathe in just one pass. Looking forward to more use in the near future

Purchased 04/2025. Will use in the Fall. Missing one hex nut for tines. PIA cause I didn't have one and I had to go to the store for one. Also wish it had a height adjustment handle like the cheaper 40 inch model. Didn't realize the height adjustment was different. Expected more for the more expensive model. Appears to be a strong heavy duty dethatcher however. No instructions for the 2 large lock washers? Bought 2 additional flat washers and put on outside of wheel mount bracket with lock nut and hex nut. Wheel was tight and spun freely. Also, as others suggested, I assembled starting with steps 3,4,5 then back to steps 1,2 to avoid any interaction with the tines. I expect no furthet problems with this item.

Turned in my walk behind for a tractor 2 yrs ago. Last fall I decided on the DT-480BH, but never ordered it as I opted for hip replacement surgery. Now that I am recovered.......I GOT ONE! Assembly was more fun than work, and it is actually lighter and easier to handle once together. It now rests in its place of honor in my shed. Thanks for AMERICAN MADE!!!!!!
