My Arab mare is super soft in the mouth. Heavier bits were causing her discomfort. I tried the Happy Mouth as an experiment, and she loves it! She is able to settle onto very soft contact, which has improved her self carriage. I highly recommend this bit for light, soft contact.
This is a nice quality bit. I switched from a happy mouth loose ring mullen mouth to this bit and am happy with the results. My horse is very mouthy, smart, and can have a hard time paying attention, so I have a whole arsenal of bits and this is definitely a good one to have around. I saw some complaints about it pinching the corners of the mouth - I got a 5.5", he usually wears a 5.5", and this is plenty big with no pinching.
My horse accepted this bit right away, she is fussy about what she has in her mouth and sometime clenches her teeth to avoid the bit. I have found her to be very responsive to the full cheek. I like to ride with a light contact and this works perfect with her.
This exactly what my young, green,TB needed. This bit has improved his behavior towards riding. The roller in the middle has reduced the amount of biting. Our favorite bit!
I bought a horse that was 11 yrs old with a very hard mouth, and I have been working with him and getting him to accept bit pressure and not until now does he actually accept the bit. I have used all types of snaffles trying to get him to accept the bit and he seems to really like this bit. He is not evading the pressure from it and seems much more relaxed. This is the only bit I will use from now on. The plastic over the bit seems to be much easier on his mouth also. Great purchase!
This bit is great for horses of all levels! I've bought the same one as my horse grew out of her old ones, and she's still working very well. We're actually ready to go up yet another size. My horse is still pretty green, and I love how if I accidentally catch her in the mouth (of course, I always try my best not to, but we have those awkward moments) it's not as uncomfortable for her. It's also one of the mildest bist I could find that wasn't a mullen mouth, and it's perfect for my horse ebcause of her sensitive mouth. It's easily chewed and yellows after awhile, but that's expected with the material.
I can't believe how much my horse loves this bit. On his old standard full cheek snaffle, he used to chomp and play with the bit all the time, especially if he was standing still. He doesn't do any of that with his new Happy Mouth bit. I expected that he would, at least until he got used to the feel of something different. This was not the case. He loved this bit from second one!
My horse is super luggy and I usually ride him in an elevator, which is not show legal. I got the happy mouth full cheek to give me more leverage but in a show legal bit. It took him a few rides to get use to, but overall I've really liked it!
I was recently having issues with my horse collecting and moving in to the bridle, I had tried at least 5 other bits but none have worked as great as this happy mouth!
I bought this bit a few years ago after getting a new horse. Since I was/am retraining him, I wanted to start with a soft mouthpiece. He chewed through the plastic material the second or third time we rode in it. I didn't use it again after the material had been damaged. I found this bit in my tack locker today and noticed that the plastic material has become stiff with age. I would love to donate or recycle this bit somehow but I just can't in good conscience pass it along to someone else knowing that the quality is so poor.
