I love working with this hook. It does catch the yarn when you fist start using it but after a few stitches it is easy to hold on to and quick to work with.
Here's the thing. I have a bamboo-like crochet needle and the unfortunate thing is that I don't know what as size it is or was because the size etched in the bamboo handle has been smoothed away by frequent use of ch 1, hdc, or any other repeating stitch.
I bought two bamboo crochet hooks this week. I needed them to take with me on a trip. I'm flying, and want to crochet to pass time during my three hour flight. I checked with the airline to see if this was allowed. The information I recieved that while I was able to crochet on my flight I could not use metal hooks, I have many of these, I found I could use wooden hooks though. So I went to my Walmart and found bamboo hooks. They're very nice wood and very sturdy. They're comfortable to use and very light weight. The best part is the price. Very reasonably priced, too! I have been using one size for the pattern I'm making and am very pleased with the feel of the hook and the way my stitches work and look. Now I can enjoy looking out the windw from time to time AND, relax with my crocheting!
Love the look of the hooks but I had to sand every single one(I bought a total of 5 hooks) to get rid of the splinters. The bamboo catches on the fibers of the yarn and makes it impossible to get through a single stitch. I've had to do this twice now after only crocheting a few dishcloths. If I have to sand them again they will no longer be the correct millimeter circumference. I would have returned them had I not sanded them before use thinking that would solve the issue permanently. I bought the 3-pack and 2 individual hooks and it's been an issue with all of them so it's doubtful I just got a bad set. I liked the idea of natural, sustainable material and the look was perfect but in the end it wasn't worth it.
I ordered 5 - 5mm (H) hooks and 5 - 5.5 mm (I) hooks. What I received was 1 - 5mm hook and 9 - 5.5 mm hooks! I didn't give permission to trade if something wasn't available. How do you mess up that bad? Now I have to waste my time having to return them! Not acceptable.
I figured it couldn't be that bad, that it might not be great but it would be at least usable. It's NOT usable even to learn. The finish is rough and jagged like it was dipped in chunky glue and not even smoothed out before. It's got what look like actual glue spikes on the tip. It was a complete waste of money. There are smoother sticks in my yard. This is the quality that a first grader tries to make out of a yard stick and coats in glue.
DO NOT LIKE BAMBOO HOOKS !!!!!
snagged my yarn. I threw it away.
