I'm going to be very clear because I know first hand how devastating losing your home to a fire can be. I want you to know I had a very heavy fire proof case, a common branded name that Walmart sells and often sold inside the Walmart store. I won't say the name but I will say it starts with an S. My house burnt to the ground but you know one thing that was still sitting there, it was that safe. The outside looked perfect other than covered in ash and smelling of smoke. We opened it and you know what, we were shocked, the papers inside, were brown on the corners but not burnt at all. I wished I had more papers inside that were important but at least some was saved. With that said, this item is listed as fireproof. I don't know if it is or not but I will say, I would guess it is more in the line of fire resistant. It also states water proof and again, I'd say water resistant. I wanted this item to simply put some file copies inside and some other items too. IF it did get destroyed, I wouldn't be real upset about it. This case does have a combination lock if you want to lock it. The zipper is the type that will resist water. Inside is several compartments and I didn't have upload space here to take a picture of all the compartments. Of course, you could use it for other items, every day receipts, etc. You could use it like I am, as extra copies and things that are not extremely important. It's always a good idea to have more than one copy of items. It's not too heavy. Not anywhere near as heavy as the common fireproof boxes sold. It is very nice and it includes an instruction card for setting the combination lock.
