This generic Zero soda is an excellent alternative to the original and you can get 2 for the cost of 1 . My only complaint is that they are in the hardest spot in the whole soda isle to get too. It is on the top shelf directly behind one of the structural beams.
It's *much better* than Diet or Zero Sugar Mountain Dew, and SO MUCH CHEAPER!!! I LOVE it. Now this and Diet Dr. Thunder are the only pop I buy! My only complaints are that it can be hard to find, and its only in 2 Liter bottles. It's not available in cans anywhere, much less 20 oz. bottles. Diet Dr. Thunder is available in cans, so why not the Mountain Lightning Zero Sugar??
I'm diabetic, so I don't eat refined sugar period This makes alternative sweeteners different on my palette so I don't really have an aftertaste issue. This makes sugar-free sodas different for people like me. As a result, this is a lot like Mountain Dew. Without the sugar, so I can drink it almost like water. I can even add a little 0 sugar powder mix to change up the flavor. It's so cheap.I can buy 3 of these to 1 of a regular two liter bottle.
Nice alternative! Great taste; no bad aftertaste… no ingredients which left me with a subsequent headache. Does not taste like a zero calorie, zero sugar product! I do recommend and will be purchasing again, in the near future. I also look forward to testing out the other zero sugar flavors this brand offers. This is not a compensated review — in any way. I do not drink soda often; however on occasion I like to indulge. I was about to purchase my go-to of pineapple soda, when the thought came to me to see if the brand offered a zero version. I am glad I went ahead and tried this and hopefully—soon, they will also offer zero sugar options for the pineapple.. ginger ale, and for a grape!
OK so there was a time a couple years ago when Walmart no longer carried mountain lightning and diet form. those were bad times. but now Walmart not only has them available in 2 L but also has a zero version. mountain lightning zero taste distinctly different from diet mountain lightning which is also true of the name brand mountain dew versions. I like them both. I buy them both. I think the diet version is smoother than this, but they both taste fine.
Great value. Near to Mt. Dew taste. My favorite would be Mt Dew Code Red. However, they don’t offer Code Red in “no sugar” or even diet. Mountain Lightening “no sugar” with a quick squirt of Kool-Aid liquid cherry (zero calorie-both available at the south Walmart keep me coming back. Not available at the north store. 😢
they have raised their prices on their generic soda way too much over the past few years. a few months back they even had it at 1.20 after the tarriffs hit. this is great for the caffiene, but name brand 2 liters used to be about this price a few years back.
I'm a Fresca "addict", it is not available in 2L this summer and has become 4X the price. I found Mountain Lightening as a substitute and am pleasantly surprised. It tastes good and keeps its carbonation for as long as the 2L bottle lasts. Fantastic price. Only problem is everyone else is finding out about the taste and value of this too, thus it is getting hard to get.
Flavor isn't bad, it taste a lot like the old name brand citrus flavor drink that my mom would drink when I was a kid. .. It is fizzy/bubbly! .. Taste is ok but it does have a really strong after taste of artificial sweetener. I should have checked the ingredients before purchasing.
YJou can tell it's not Mt Dew, but it's not terrible. My biggest complaint is the price which has gone from .60 to 1.24 in only 5 years. There's no excuse for such a price increase as inflation can only account for a 25% increase at the most, not 100%.
