MMmmmm. So good!
Add a little bit of thyme to this and bring to a boil in some chicken broth, mixing often, and you get a great base for some gumbo. I always add canned tomatoes in the beginning once it's gets boiling and then add my cooked meat for a litle while and my okra at the last little end of simmering. It always comes out just right and my family never has any complaints. People do things differently when it comes to gumbo base, and I like this shortened quicker version that doesn't sacrifice taste whatsoever.

Tastes bad
This stuff tastes awful. It has a weird sweet nutmeg like smell and aftertaste the gumbo I made with it is going in the trash.
