Fantastic value beans for the price, and great flavor. I rinse them several times before soaking them overnight and they always turn out great. I use them in my slow cooker when I make chili, and also as a stand alone side dish in dinners.
i calculated weighing out can prices verses similar weight of soaked and cooked dry beans. i save just under two dollars doing dry beans. 1 bag of dry beans yields around four 15oz cans. i also see that dry beans maybe use less resources then can to deliver food to me.
you can't go wrong stocking up on beans and Great Value Red beans are super good with gravy and rice. I'm just restocking because what is left of my dry beans have become really too old to use except in case of emergency. I may just use them to make heating pads for everyone for Christmas. If this idea sparks your imagination, don't forget to make a pillowcase type cover for the microwave/freezer heating/cooling pads. Start fresh. Rotate your stock if it's time. You know when the beans take longer to cook and the skin is like popcorn kernels no matter how long you cook them. That's when you can use them for pie weights or heating pads, eh? Great Value Dry Beans have never let me down. I use and make them a lot in my slow cooker.
you're finding out that there is so much sodium in canned beans I have gone to dry beans much more economical and they taste great
this is great for replacing noodles with when you cant have noodles. also great for halloween because everything in the stew becomes black.
great new lower price for a staple item everyone could use.will order again.
with the cost of food rising, its cheaper to cook the dry beans than buy the canned beans
like lentils, I just don't like beans. these cooked fine and tastes like beans but I'm done eating to like beAns.
I do not recommend these beans. they're very old. they probably have been sitting on the warehouse shelf for years before they even hit the supermarket and your table. they don't hold any color even if you cook them in the soaked water but you don't have to soak black beans anyway when you cook them you do need to simmer them but even on a simmer they explode. there's two reasons for explosion, hard water and old beans. I'm debating if I ever buy these beans again, or if I'm going to go out there and spend the money on organics? just buyer beware and know the product that you're getting is probably old as dirt.
So many of the beans split in half. Those have to be trashed.
