I am preparedness minded and like value - which to me means the following: fair price best-n-class product least complex long shelf life. This spaghetti sauce, if left cool and dry, in a dark place will last several years, if unopened. This sauce lasts well as compared to any other sauce in plastic jars. Value. Vincent
It is a great base red sauce. You can always spice it up or add extra fresh garlic or other herbs. If you are in a hurry for a weeknight dinner, using this you can have a decent meal on the table in minutes (my favorite: sweet turkey sausages stuffed with half a mozzarella cheese stick, pour this sauce on top and bake). It tastes just as good as more moderately priced brands. If you are watching calorie counts (sauces can be calorie dense) it is on the low side and easy to track. The texture is not too chunky-not watery- and I have never been surprised by random non tomato suspicious clumps. The shape of the jar is not a pretty design, not is the decal-but I do not care about that. It is a staple in my pantry. I admit, not ALL Great Value brand foods are up to my standards, but this one is a solid choice, especially for the price. It also lasts a long time in your fridge after opening. I was initially skeptical, as my previous choice was a brand name sauce that was priced in the 8-9$ range..I could not keep paying for that, so I made the leap. Unless I have the time to make my own sauce from scratch (which we all know tastes better) this is my go -to choice.
For a budget-friendly pantry staple, Great Value Traditional Spaghetti Sauce delivers solid flavor and reliability. The texture is smooth with small bits of tomato, and it has a mild, classic Italian-style taste that works well as a base for pasta dishes, lasagna, or meatballs.
Great Value pasta sauce is another of my brand favorites. Personally, I prefer the Traditional Pasta Sauce, but have tried the other varieties and they're of same good taste and texture. I use it not just for pasta but as pizza sauce, for dipping fried mozarella sticks, and addition to my beef and vegetable soup sometimes. Great price compared to other brands and tastes better in my opinion, and more nutritional in most cases.
This is a sweet spaghetti sauce so if you like that it's great and comparable to a name brand. It you don't care for a sweet spaghetti sauce pick a different brand. I think kids will love this sauce! I enjoyed it! I added ground beef and cheese to make it special!
I use this Great Value Traditional Pasta Sauce for so many meals that are not even pasta. It makes for a great base for other sauces and can also be used on its own. It can be dressed up with some ground beef and seasonings. The texture is great on its own or with all kinds of meats, veggies and so on. I even use it to flavor my slow cooker beef and veggie soup that I make with Walmart's precut stew beef and a package of GV frozen mixed veggies. This sauce is not chunky but can easily be made chunkie with GV shopped, stewed and seasoned tomatoes.
First of all, the taste is perfect for my taste and it’s a good deal as well even though it’s not an actual huge namebrand, the quality, the taste is incredible. I love it. One thing I do like to do is keep the jars. They’re great for cold drinks.
The ingredients come off balanced, but a little bit bland, which is why I bought it. I often want a simple sauce without a spicy flavor for health reasons and/or because I want to add my own flavor magic. Last night, I put it over some ground beef with rice and vegetables and some leftover adjous . You see I plan to freeze some of these and surrounding it with a little spaghetti sauce and liquid will help it freeze better. I like the jar seal because it made a nice sound when I opened it like a pop, but yet even with my arthritic hands, I was able to open it. It’s perfect for me.
I like it! I've purchased it at least 3-4 times by now - when I want to use it to make spaghetti or use it to dip my fried broccoli bites, etc. I love using Angel Hair pasta and this sauce is not too heavy that it weighs it down and drowns it, but also not too thin to where it's watery. It has a balanced taste. Not too pungent/overpowering and citrusy from the tomatoes, yet there is just enough acidity to know it's primarily tomatoes. It's pretty smooth - meaning very very little to no chunks (of tomatoes). There are no extra flavors in it (other than just general seasoning). Good enough flavor for just a plain red-sauce pasta w/ no meats added into your meal (if you like that) and/or also plain enough to build upon the flavor to what you want it to taste like - and is good w/ meats (ground turkey, chicken, beef) too. Try it. Have fun!
There was a time, many years ago, when I made my pasta sauce from scratch and cooked it most of the day. That got old and so did I. I discovered that this Great Value Pasta sauce makes delicious spaghetti with a few of my favorite spices added, in much less time with much less effort. Win-Win!
