I hand crush 2 cans of these, adding them to my par cooked vegetables in the pot with the crushed tomatoes - stir and season to taste. A secret: Add 7 baby carrots to your 2 can Crushed and 2 can Whole Peeled tomatoes… it imparts a sweetness to the sauce that makes any added sugar to be a lesser amount added.
A staple for soups in our home. Great Value is always the less expensive choice compared to name brands. Coming from someone who grew up with home grown canned tomatoes in a glass jar, this item does not have a "can" taste.
You'd be surprised how often companies mess them up. Too much salt, too little, both affecting the texture and taste. Short of canning my own, these are as good as it gets. Yes, apparently often, too. Canning my own used to be cheaper and much tastier than canned 'maters. This takes the work out of it, it's not the same, but close and I can buy more for the same price as other brands. I dragged my feet trying different brands of tomatoes, especially brands that didn't have the word "Red" in them and I'll still buy that brand when on sale, but it doesn't happen often enough or a deep enough price drop. I don't have to wait for a sale on these. The few times that the other brand would run a sale of 5 for $2 on the big cans (28 oz), that's in the past, I know. But this is as close as I'll ever see to that again and I'm happy with the product. Until something changes, it'll be my choice for the future. Although I don't recommend it if you haven't done it before but adding a few grains of citric acid to canned tomatoes will brighten the flavor, I used to use it when canning my own and a tiny bit goes a looong way. If you try it, go very easy but it really wakes up canned tomatoes. Just 2 or 3 granules for a big can and 1 or 2 for the 12 ounce. If it doesn't matter to you, great. I like a brighter flavor. I especially like it with boxed mac and cheese, I skip the milk and use tomatoes, man is that quick, easy and so yummy. The WalMart mac and cheese is pretty good too, btw. Better than the Top's and Wegman's brands, you always have to add extra cheese of some kind to those. I seriously don't know how WalMart keeps crushing it, but I'll keep trying new stuff by them until I'm disappointed. I really thought the Mac and Cheese would be the one, everyone but Kraft seems to blow that one. But, no. It's good. Now, if they'd just give a shot at Kraft Dinner? If you don't know it, it's the Kraft Spaghetti. Man, is that stuff good and I have to buy it on line by the case most of the time, and even then, it's expired more often than not. But I get it for the seasoning packet, the pasta and cheese don't really matter. Sorry, off topic. Still, I hope you read this WalMart
I throw tomatoes in with my macaroni and cheese after dicing , sour cream , 2 -8 oz blocks of extra sharp cheese ( broccoli or peas to get veggies in me) and a 16 oz box of large elbow macaroni and everyone comes to the table . ( Cheese has enough salt - so i do not add salt but i do add pepper .Yum)
I would never use canned tomatoes for sandwiches, but these whole peeled tomatoes are perfect for soups and sauces. I blend them in my Vitamix 5200 for a hearty winter tomato soup, and they also work well as a base for chili or homemade pizza sauce when diced. I only wish they came in jars instead, because sometimes the tomatoes and juice can carry a “tinny” canned taste. The large 28oz can is convenient for bigger batches, making them a solid pantry staple when fresh tomatoes are not in season.
Great quality for the price! I squish them by hand. Perfect for sauces and other dishes. Wonderful flavor. Make deliscious soups and chili.
I used these in a stew and they were fantastic. They are a very nice size and incredibly juicy, which added so much moisture to the dish. Best of all, the taste is amazing. Highly recommend!
I used these and still do for my Salsa and love it! Have used it for soups etc and it doesn't do as well as it is lumpy unless I take the time to put it in my blender. So I love these for Salsa.
Whole peeled tomatoes are perfect for my homemade pizza! They taste so ripe! They are also a wonderful addition to soups or stews! They are pre-peeled so it saves time for preparation. Tomatoes provide the body with essential nutrients. On top of all that, the price is very reasonable. All around a great product!
Best tomatoes for making sauce and even tabouli. It is a shame that Walmart does not sell fresh tomatoes that taste real. They are picked too early or are sourced from a grower that does not have decent soil. LIved in Mexico and the tomatoes there were excellent. Canned tomatoes have BPA in them which is a Hormone Blocker. Would be better if they used glass containers
