[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product for free from Influenster and Acer in exchange for an honest review.
I took a while to write my review, because I really wanted to get into this. I am a techie. I knew this wasn't gonna be the best for me because I'm into graphic design and I'm filming a documentary so I need a really great graphics card. When I saw the specs I thought this would be great for my brother or my client.
I am an influencer and I have multiple small businesses that I do projects for like I create planners and books, edit videos amongst various other things. This is not for that.
This is great for college students, depending on their major, seniors who just need some thing in the house - the fact that it's touchscreen is ideal for seniors because they tend to touch the screen often not realizing you can't but with this one you can so that's a huge plus. I prefer touchscreen
I actually have a PC laptop with similar specs, but I bought it 5 years ago when it was like top-of-the-line. The touchscreen is the number one bonus on this bad boy. It is 8 GB which is the current standard, but a lot of people are now looking for 16 GB to process games, technology, graphics, etc. If you're not a gamer and you're not doing graphic design or video editing you don't really need anything more than this. This is alleged, just my personal opinion it's not rooted in truth or facts. It's just how I feel based on my experiences.
I feel like this is perfect for the average person. It works, it's functional, I wish that it had a CD ROM reader in it. I like the fact that it's a wired keyboard and mouse. Many people said that they wish that it was a wireless keyboard and mouse but that's irritating because you have to keep changing the batteries every month. That's like a money grabber. So I like the wired keyboard and mouse.
I like that you can connect it to a laptop to have a larger screen. It's OK for decent graphics like I create a lot of books and planners so it works for that but when I want to get into the real details and do a lot of graphic design it's not the best for that.
The sound is OK. It's if you're an audiophile you're not gonna enjoy it. It's OK to listen to music. It's not the best. Sound quality quality but it works. You can get away with Skype and other things on here. It's brand new, so I don't know what it's gonna be like after you put a bunch of stuff on it because that's when the computers tend to slow down. And you have to do regular maintenance like a disc cleanup and defragmenting, but those can be put on a schedule automatically done on a monthly basis.
It doesn't have a lot of the features that I personally need, but it was free so I didn't customize it and pick it out myself. I think this is a great laptop for one of my clients who is looking for a product like this. She's not really into computers. She wants something super easy and simple and she just needs to be able to turn it on and have it work. That's what this is. Simple easy to use, very simple set up, touchscreen a decent amount of memory. I recommend an external hard drive if you need more, then 512 GB just with the size of certain files will fill up quickly depending on what you're doing. We are scanning her artwork and she will possibly be making some videos uploading it from her phone to save them here.
All right have fun tonight. I have to say this is a pretty good product and if this is within your price range, I think it's worth it. If you just need a computer and you just need to do basic online surfing, write a couple of papers or you need a bigger screen and will connect it to your laptop I think this is fine.
If you're a professional and you want this for your homebase business I would change certain specs if you want to stay with a brand Acer, I would upgrade to like a 16 GB hard drive, a better graphics card and more memory. But most people don't need that.
