AcuRite 5-inch Capacity Glass Rain Gauge - Clear

I've been wanting a engaged for a long time. This one is perfect. It sits about 8 inches tall and I put it right on my deck railing. It screws into the railing. Very easy to mount. The tube is made out of glass and fits into a plastic holder of good construction that sits about 1 inch tall. I like it because of its ease of use.

My husband loves these rain gauges. If one breaks or cracks it's not an arm or a leg to replace it. The only time one has been cracked was our fault. We like them and recommend them. We just want to see how much rain has accumulated. This rain gauge serves that purpose.

Have used this gauge over the years and can actually read it looking out the window. That way I don't have to go out in the cold plus the numbers are big.

Probably not as accurate as larger guages, but still gives you a good idea of what rain has fallen

Works great! Just don't like that it doesn't come with its own screws.

Walmart shipping personnel need to do a better job of packaging. I have no problems with this product at all other than 1 of the 3 rain gauges I ordered arrived BROKEN. How could anyone think you could ship GLASS cylinders in a paper packaging envelope and have the items all, or any, arrive safely?? This item came from a Walmart location, and they need to train their associates better.

This gauge is priced well but buyer should be aware that the plastic cup is very tight against the glass. Makes it difficult to empty rainwater without twisting and scraping the paint off the glass. I had to widen the plastic cup but I didnt want to stretch it out by hand and take the chance of breaking it. Heres what I did: I first used a heat source to warm it up the plastic before stretching it out. Then I wrapped some masking tape around the bottom of tube so when the plastic cooled (with tube in it) it would retain a larger diameter. That seemed to do the trick! A lot of fussing for something that should fit properly which is why I gave it three stars.

The online ad that caused me to purchase this said it is glass. It is not glass, but appears to be some type of plastic or plexiglass. I had wanted glass because the plastic one I used to have became cloudy from too much sunlight. Other than the material it is made out of , it appears to be a fine rain gauge and was a good value. I do not recommend it to people who are expecting real glass.

Ordered 3 of these rain gauges. Due to no packing , 2 of them arrived broken (loose, broken glass all inside the large box with batteries and slippers). My complaint to AI assistant only got one replaced. So I am still missing one gauge. Whose fault? 1) original item was glass attached to cardboard. 2) Walmart did not pack them securely. 3) AI assistant did not send the two replacements. 4) Me, the purchaser, for trusting Wal-Mart !

to small opening, no rain can enter the tube, waste of money.
