This is a great in-home system. I'm currently growing enough lettuce for 2–3 salads a week, and I plan to use the seedling tray in the spring to jump-start my outdoor garden. The lights and reminders make it easy to manage, though it does take up some space.
I previously had the smaller ones from Aero, and I absolutely love them. The 24 Farm Basic is exactly what I was looking for to grow a larger quantity of lettuce, herbs, and tomatoes, which I eat a lot of! It doesn't take up much space, but since it is lower, if you can't place it higher and it's on the floor, you'll need to bend down or get on the floor to harvest. That doesn't bother me at all. I love that each side has a different light, so you can plan your garden based on plant height, with taller plants on one side and smaller ones on the other. They come with clear instructions, and the pods indicate whether the plant is short, medium, or tall, so you can plant accordingly. The assembly was pretty easy, but if you don't have help, it's heavy!
Love my Farm 24 basic. I have planted tomatoes, herbs, lettuce and peppers. I got over 500 cherry tomatoes from one plant (planted February 1 and bloomed its last mid-November). It is perfect for those who want a year-round garden without the hassle of fighting off birds and pests outside.
Got a Farm Plus in early March. Within 1 week, I had lettuce and herbs starting to sprout. 2 weeks later, I was starting to harvest lettuce and pick some of the herbs for cooking. It is now mid-may and my 3 lettuce plants give me a big family bowl of lettuce every week. I loved it so much so much, I bought a Farm as an additional unit, so that I can have more lettuce but also kale, tomatoes, peppers... It is not much more complicated or troublesome than keeping interior plants alive and I have fresh produce handy at all times. No more lettuce from the store withering in the fridge: I take what I need from the garden when I need it and it taste amazing. The unit tells you when to add water (almost every day when your garden is established). Ideally, you change the water every week (although Aerogarden recommends each month). It is a rather expansive set up and you can have a DIY installation for probably 1/3 of the price, but it will not be as nice looking. Not even close. Just understand prior to ordering that the room you put it in will "glow in the dark" - the lights are very strong. No more winter blues with that, guaranteed. Also note that you have 12 holes to grow plants in each of the 2 reservoirs, but in reality, you can only grow about 6 plants in each reservoir. Actually probably just 3 if you have peppers and tomatoes.
I currently have 3 AeroGarden farms and 2 smaller units. You can't go wrong with these. I grow tomatoes ,lettuce, peppers and string beans among many other things.
Great product…sorry to see the steep price increase. I have purchased 5 of the Farm24XL models before the increase and felt they were worth the price. Not sure if I can afford to purchase anymore.
This is the most exciting machine ever!! I planted 3 poblano peppers with 1 jalapeño and 2 tomato plants and one of my own seed of eggplant!! They're growing nicely, a few bumps, yellow leaves but my own fault!! I have tomatoes growing Anna my peppers coming out only after 42 days!!!
This unit is excellent for growing larger plants. The only drawback is that the smaller reservoir will need more frequent refilling after the plant get bigger. Also, I have 15 of these units and on some of them the light does not reach the same height as other. Quite annoying when trying to judge how tall to allow your plants to get. Lastly, there is a glitch in the software where it auto adjusts the pump on day 15 of planting from whatever you have set to 5 min on, 25 min off and the water is at a full level. Happens on every unit. Other than these things, the farm 12XL is an excellent purchase that will have you growing whatever you want ;) year round!
There was some issues w/ the setup which required DIY modifications (otherwise the garden wouldn't assemble). Also, of the first batch of seedlings planted, only about 50% have germinated. Is this normal?
I have no problem with the garden. Assembly difficult by myself, when anssembling ask a friend for help. Had to write to get instructions for the garden setup. Do not see how to set up the drain function. Basically the documentation is severely lacking. There could be a detailed explanation that goes beyond assembly instructions. Positives: I have sprouts growing in my garden and hopefully I will have food in a few months. Not sure of a lot of how the process works so I have to learn on my own and make mistakes since the documentation is an issue. No phone number to call. All help by email.
