Purchased this two months ago, best decision I've made in a while. The sound is incredible and not enhanced in any way, it has a very natural quality and the filters that are included with the product helps you pick the sound signature that you are looking for. Comfort is top notch and the build quality is fantastic. Overall very satisfied with the product.
I own medium class IEMs from Westone and while they are awesome, these outperform them regarding cleanliness and atmosphere. Not size though, as the N5005 are rather large. Once again I am astonished how good IEMs can sound. (Note: I am affiliated with this company.)
I don't know why AKG sold this in crazy price, but I am happy that their decision, because I can enjoy the perfect quality earphone in affordable price. Now, I buy the second for my spare and will not buy the other brand earphone at least 5 years. ^_^
My first foray into hi res audio IEMs and I am blown away. The N5005s pair beautifully with my Chord Mojo and hi res audio files. The accessories (bluetooth cable, sound adjusting filters, various ear tips and hard sided case) are extremely useful. I'm hearing details in my music I've never heard before, and the wireless cable does a great job when I'm on the go. My only complaint, and I'm not alone here, is that it can be tough to get a good fit with the attached ear tips. As a result for me the bass is not as present as it could be. It looks like I'll be trying various after market tips. Headfi.org has an N5005 thread with some great suggestions.
The sound quality of these IEMs is fantastic. I'm running these on the 3.5mm cable with a BTR5, using the reference filter. Comparing these to other Headphones ER4XR, SE525, ER2XR, FDX01 etc... They are better in almost every aspect. Better (thicker) bottom end, better (airy) treble extension. They do seem to get a bit sibilant at high volumes, but BA's sometimes do. The quality is top notch, just be delicate with the connections. Everything is quite small and could get damaged if you're abusive when swapping cables. The included cable has Bluetooth 4.1, that isn't very exciting but this was designed and released 4+years ago so it's too be expected. I have been impressed with other AKG products that have SBC codecs only. When I get around to trying it I'll update my review.
Exceptional sound quality
The sound is very good, good dynamic, good resolution. However, the 3.5 mm cable and 2.5 mm balanced cable are not good quality. The 3.5 mm cable has a controller and mic, the ceramic case for them felt apart, I need to glue it back. The head of 2.5 mm cable is not even quite straight, the connection is not stable, move the head a little bit, one earphone can totally lose sound. I don't know how to contact CS to replace the cables.
These were absolutely incredible for the 1 year that they lasted, they're obviously not as feature rich as newer earphones but nothing else came close to the sound signature and I loved them. Today, my pride and joy disintegrated, pulled right earpiece out and the barrel came right off and stayed inside the silicone tip and in my ear. For this price that's absolutely ridiculous.
One side failed. Apparently the treble unit failed so only bass is coming out of the right side. And it just went out of the warranty. This was a pricey earphone so I expected it to last longer but it didn't.
Very poor mechanics quality at the connectors. In less then 2 years I opened the 3rd ticket at support. In my case the right earplug is not working, sound is continuously interrupting if I move my head. The behavior is the same if Bluetooth module is connected or if the cable is connected. My personal opinion is that the connector is damaged and contact is not properly assured. In addition poor design and not ergonomic at all. With the bluetooth module connected, those two batteries are hanging below your ears like you have some earrings and if you turn your head everything is flying. In theese days when competition is creating cordless earplugs...
