I love these blue shelves. They're easy to put together. Directions are good. Construction is very strong. I wish they had wheels, but ended up buying 5 of these, total, from different sources. Price was good but then it went up. Came with gloves to keep safe. I bought 2 other different shelves with no gloves and the edges were so sharp I cut my finger open as soon as I started, had to return them. Out of 3 different kinds of shelves I bought, these were the very best, sturdiest and value.
the assembly was a bit tedious. it has tabs and slots instead of 'buttons and holes'. (some sets of shelves have a hole that looks like a lightbulb. those are MUCH easier to assemble) I had no idea it would be that exacting to assemble. had to file a tab that had a bit too much blue coating on it, but one tab out of two sets of shelving is pretty remarkable. this does NOT include the rubber mallet, so I wrapped my hammer in a sock and was very careful. these shelves transformed my storage solutions in my tiny, tiny home. the blue coating is thick, shiny, scratch resistant. they come with wall anchors to save the kiddos that you like if they decide to go climbing. I will be buying more. shelves, not kiddos. would definitely recommend.
Fairly easy to assemble, holds tons of stuff, does the decluttering I was looking for. Very stable. It does need 2 people to get assembly started, but once base is done, one person can finish assembly alone. It took maybe an hour total, %26 we weren't rushing, took our time.
The assembly wasn't the easiest, but my 2 pre-teens were able to put these together. We got a few for a pantry-like storage area for dry foods. It has been wonderful. Very sturdy. The only thing I don't like is that the cardboard shelves aren't the easiest to clean, and are easy to stain. Definitely worth the buy though.
This shelf unit turned out to be a great buy. I needed extra storage in my garage, and the Alden Design 5-shelf unit delivered. The steel frame feels solid, and the boltless design made assembly pretty quick — I was able to put it together by myself in under an hour using just a rubber mallet. The adjustable shelves are a big plus since I could customize the spacing based on what I needed to store. The Neptune Blue color is a nice touch — different from the usual industrial gray and adds a bit of style to utility spaces. Only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that the shelves are made of particle board. They're decent for medium-weight items but might not hold up well under really heavy loads unless reinforced. Overall, it's a functional and attractive shelving unit for the price. Would definitely recommend for home, basement, or garage organization.
I ordered this unit along with some Muscle Rack units. The Muscle Rack units were much easier to assemble and were much sturdier than this Alden unit. I was able to make this unit useful by securing it to the wall. i will probably leave this shelf unit with the house when moving. I might have returned, but I did not want to endure the disassembly.
It's advertised as a 10min installation, it takes way longer than 10mins. It seems flimsy, the pieces easily pop out and I'm skeptical that it would hold nearly 2,000lbs. You should build this where you're going to use it, coz if you try to move, the bits pop out. The board shelves are very thing and preciously sit on the shelves.
The price was okay, the shelf itself is a tad bit flimsy. Assembly was a huge headache. The parts aren't labeled, and the instructions aren't clear. It was pretty self explanatory to me because I'm use to assembling things, but if you aren't use to assembly it would be frustrating. Also the parts were not lining up perfectly.
I gave it one star then I thought well the price I'll give it two but it's not even worth the two stars. It's very tedious to put together once it is it is very wobbly. I bought three of these. I got one together whether I keep it or not I'm not sure but the other two got to go back.
I ordered two, and both came incomplete, some parts were missing and I couldn't get them through the customer service. The only option was return the items, but after so much work during the assembly, I don't want to do that again. Probably the new replacement will come incomplete as well. I don't recommend this item.
