[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been thinking about collecting rainwater, to use in my garden, for some time now. I especially like the Algreen Athena Rainwater Collection Barrel because of the stylish, functional design! This barrel not only collects rainwater, but also has an area on top for planting. This helps the barrel blend right in, instead of being an eyesore. I also really like the spigot to dispense water easily, as needed. The lightweight material is durable and high quality, yet allows me to move the barrel where I want it (without too much water, of course!). This rainwater collection barrel is awesome, and comes in a couple different sizes and colors. I will definitely continue to use, and would highly recommend!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was genuinely surprised that it is made of plastic! Its attention to detail in the design is incredible. I was impressed by how lightweight it was when empty, although this barrel is huge, which made moving and setting it up a breeze. My 7 year old was able to lift it. Assembly was extremely straightforward and easy. My kids and I love being able to place plants on top as well. Living in the South where it rains even during the summer, having this barrel is a game-changer!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Algren athena 80 gallon plastic rain barrel is built exceptionally well with all the parts needed provided. Installation was a breeze. And the maintenance required is very minimal. It collects a shocking amount of rain water quickly. I'm impressed and pleased with it.
This turned out to be a great barrel. It looks great on our deck and holds plenty of rainwater. I combined it with the EarthMinded DIY Rain Barrel Diverter kit for a 3x4in Downspout. Once the barrel is full the rainwater continues down the downspout and will not over fill the barrel. We even dressed it up with a fern.
Just got this & got it set up. Prob MPT shipping, arrived in a big ole box the kids love to play in, really easy to set up. Time will tell how well this barrel works. I do plan to drill holes in the depression near the screen on top to make it a useful planter that won't get water logged.
Unfortunately, while the Athena rain barrel is attractive and large, it was poorly packed and arrived dented in fully on one side. In addition, the spigot did not fit and the overflow valve was placed in back, against the wall, making it very hard to reach. I had a professional installing it and he has had trouble getting it to work.
Nice but water fills very fast even with drizzling rain. It was overflowing within an hour, every rain.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have a portion of our roof where water is diverted to flow off the roof, and we placed the barrel there. I watched it closely after the first hard rain and placement was good but the bottom hose attachment spot was leaking as quickly as rain was falling. The instructions included were very minimal; my husband followed them and is experienced with much more complex plumbing but had to rig the bottom one to seal properly--it didn't do so initially. The spigot is very high; we've had two big rains and still haven't reached high enough to use it, and it appears to be weathered already. We had to use a screwdriver to take the lid off to access the parts to install which were inside the barrel, which is odd. We still need to drill holes in the portion meant to plan flowers so water doesn't collect there. Seems like something that could be already done to not collect standing water for mosquitos. It looks nice but the setup is a bit odd and excessive considering the lack of instruction provided.
JUST UNPACKAGED---NOZZLE/TAPE/SPIGOT NOT IN BOX!
A great concept and design, poorly manufactured. It leaks out of every hole. The spigots are misaligned and won't seal. I saw this in reviews and thought I could fix it, but really should I need to? Poor manufacturing quality. You're gonna have some work to do if you need this size shape and color as I did.
