We had a horse diagnosed with gastric ulcers. Went through the 30 day GastroGuard treatment, then on a well known brand pelleted product for prevention. UlcerGuard given for event days. He had break through ulcer type behavior frequently - switched over to Vitalize after it was recommended by Vet. Over 4 months now on this fantastic product - he is feeling and performing better than ever. A very, very happy horse.
Trainer recommended Alimend for my very sensitive OTTB mare. We didn't know if she had ulcers but since Alimend was also helpful in the prevention of them she thought it was something worth trying! I thought it seemed super expensive but then I did some research and discovered it was way cheaper than Ulcergard and any other treatment out there! I saw a change in my mare within the first month. When grooming her she didnt flinch when I touched her belly and stood still while I tacked her up. When normally she would panic and break the cross ties. It changed my mare's life and she is so happy and content now because of Alimend!
I was previously using Relyne GI by Hagyard, which also contains the polysaccharide MHB3® Hyaluronan, but switched to Alimend for the higher beta glucan content and inclusion of prebiotics. I was nervous, because historically Relyne was the only supplement to keep my horse's chronic ulcers from getting bad (and he's a VERY picky eater so switching something I knew he ate fine worried me too. No problems with palatability at all!). He has a medical condition that requires him to be on antibiotics every day, which takes quite a toll on his digestive system. You wouldn't be able to tell looking at him, he's maintaining weight beautifully on Alimend!! Having it available on through SmartPak is amazing for the autoship discount, so in addition to having more “good stuff” in it, Alimend is now more affordable than Relyne.
I have basin using Alimend for over a year on my homebred show horse who has a funny tummy and some things suggested ulcers. Omep made him angry it seemed. I came upon this from a friend whose vet suggested it. Vet also shows Grand Prix Jumpers. My horse isn't angry from it, seems more relaxed and has been very successful at his job. A second horse with similar issues also improved his overall attitude in a quick turn around time after starting Alimend. I do use 2 pumps 2x/day at shows and the maintenance dose at home unless something stressful is going on. So glad Smartpak carries this and with my discounts I save around 20$ per bottle, yay!!
I'm very pleased with this product. My OTTB struggled to gain weight, even on a senior feed and 24/7 turn out on good grass. He started to kick out at my leg occasionally on his right side, which was unusual for him (and I've owned him 3 years). My vet suggested this product and I saw a change in his weight within 10 days. He looks fantastic. I am considering decreasing his grain. He's stopped kicking out at my leg, and he is cribbing less. Highly recommend! Worth every penny.
My mare is a high level show jumper. We show about 12-15 weeks per year. She will do day shows or overnight shows and can sometimes get stressed. This is a great, affordable, daily supplement to help keep her ulcers in check and bowel movements less "nervous".
I have just finished my first bottle of this and I have noticed a huge difference in my OTTBs overall attitude. Hes not as girthy when tacking up, poop has consistently been solid. I believe this product is definitely helping his gut health. I had him at an overnight show and the weather was in the teens, he never showed any signs of discomfort / seemed way more relaxed!
Ulcers and gastric upset can show it's self with so many different symptoms. I am very happy with how this product broadly covers the GI health and comfort. It's a must have for me when traveling, showing and I keep the more sensitive horses on it regularly.
After a few scary episodes and vet calls with my 17 year old quarter horse we figured out my gelding had bad ulcers that would go away with medication and just come back. My gelding would lay down a lot and grunt, very gasy, and lost appetite. Has been on Alimend for 3 months and he is a whole new energetic 17 year old!! It works and is affordable!! I also recommend using their equine gel. I have used twice when our Maryland weather goes from 60s to freezing snow storm next day.....he would have loud gas and gut sounds, but the gel stopped all that.
This does seem to be helping my horses stomach issues and I have tried everything BUT I was really disappointed that the bottle only lasted for barely 30 days. It was advertised to be enough for 60 days.
