This is a little harder to work with due to less grog, but it comes out smooth as glass! It also doesn't lose it's shape as much as some while drying. It dries a little slower when hand building but retains shape as soon as edges start drying. The bottom of my large leaf platter is beautifully flat. This will give you a work out when you are kneading to get bubbles out, so be prepared to slow things down a bit and enjoy this smooth clay. I haven't fired it yet, but it looks like it will withstand the heat up to cone 10 like they say. It is grey in color, but will fire whiteish. It is already drying white.
So glad I bought this clay! Being that I have problems with the joints in my Hands, this clay (even with a little grog), was great to work with and very smooth and easy for my Hands. Additionally, very affordable. Thank you so much.
Great clay for hand building and I can't wait to try throwing on the wheel with it.
This is my 2nd order of this clay. I use it for handbuilding and love it. Great price and great quality....very similar to what we offer at the studio I work at. Was delivered promptly and arrived in good condition....ready to start using. Shared this order with a friend.
Nice texture, holds moisture for a time while shaping or handbuilding. Fires to a nice light buff. Takes glaze well. Haven't tested water retention,( ie, What does semi-vitrious mean at cone 5?) TBD- haven't done any plates or mugs yet.
Works well in my classes for wheel throwing and hand building
Bisque fired to cone 04; glaze fired to cone 6, glazed with Laguna and Amaco glazes. Glazes turned out beautifully on this clay at those temperatures. However, although I detect no cracks in my glazes, with use, the Buff #46 has discolored. I'm sure it's something I have done improperly but though it fair to review if it could help someone out. Otherwise the clay is easy to work with and very smooth.
The bag had a small hole in it causing the clay to get very hard! I used it any way because if the hassle of shipping a 50 pound box back to walmart
