I bought this from Wal-Mart because it was cheaper than another retailer where I found it. The appearance is great, old-time (with the wooden bucket), and functional. It makes delicious ice cream and works with a large variety of recipes. As a quick suggestion, soak the bucket in water before making ice cream the first time. This makes the wooden bucket seal better and there won't be as much water dripping out as the ice melts. The plastic around the motor seems kind of cheap but I haven't had any problem with it breaking or anything. Little kids especially seem to enjoy using the manual handle to spin the canister to make the ice cream at least for the first part, and then you can switch to the electric motor, which automatically stops when the ice cream gets to just the right consistency/thickness! This is the best ice cream maker I have used, even more enjoyable than ice cream makers that have their own cooling systems. I might be biased because it reminds me of making ice cream when I was a kid with a similar ice cream maker. Nonetheless, this is a great ice cream maker.
We really like the ability to make any amount of ice cream, whether a small or large batch. The canister is really deep and it can get a little messy getting the ice cream out. But definitely worth it. It is also nice to have the hand crank option, so it could be brought where there is no electricity, and everyone can help with creating a treat.
This unit is the Grandfather of all homemade ice cream machines. Powerful motor and huge canister for ice cream.
lid to ice cream mixer is kinda thin but works great overall a good value
I love that it's either electric or crank. Easy to use.
Beautiful, easy to use, makes great ice cream!
Very nice and easy to use.
It worked well. It did take longer than expected, but the ice cream was perfect—not too hard or too soft. The one thing my old maker had that this one didn't was a “fill” line. It would be nice to know how far to fill it for different amounts of ice cream. I did figure out that you don't want to put a full 6 quarts of liquid to make 6 quarts of ice cream.
I dislike that the paddle does not move in electric mode the tub just spins, after an hr in a half, I went with the Manuel arm.
When I opened the box, the metal canister was bent, and it looked like the paddle had been used and put back in the bag with some kind of substance on it. I contacted the seller, and they stated they could not help me due to the fact that I did not open the package immediately, and the 30 day window for exchanges and returns had passed.
