I bought this blanket for a 30 y o quarterhorse rescue who used to be impervious to weather changes, but, because of age, has become vulnerable in sleety weather or high winds and cold. We had a blizzard right after I bought this, and though nights he can be in a wind-tight barn with his two younger buddies, outside this blanket really works for him. He talks to me when I put it on him, now. Little 'huh, huh, huhs' and nose nudges. He knows the comfort it brings him, knows he'll be warm and dry no matter the weather. So THANKS! from me and from Peyton.
I love this blanket so much! It is the best I have had! (And i've gone through quite a bit!) It does run a little big but not too much. Being bigger it doesn't hang off anywhere, just adds more coverage. Which I like. The only downfall is, the blanket doesn't have reflectors on it. Which is always a plus when your horse stays outside like mine. But if your horse is not out at night while having it on then you don't have to worry. All in all, an excellent purchase!
I have used Horseware blankets for years, but really like the quality and value of the Amigo 1200D! An excellent blanket for about $150 is exceptional! It runs a little large, which is great so it's not tight on my horses who are a little chunky, but it doesn't hang on the thinner ones either. The quality that I like most that I haven't found in other blankets is it's breathability. This time of year it gets quite cold at night, but can get a little warm late in the afternoon. It's a hassle to take the blankets off all the horses for two or three hours and have to put them back on. But with the Amigo, they don't overheat or sweat. I've used four other brands of good blankets, but the horses always sweat in those if the temperature gets above the mid 50's for a couple hours.
This is the only blanket I have owned that truely stays in place. It is also completely water tight. Rain or snow does not migrate inside. The mid weight is perfect for late fall through mid spring, here in north eastern Washington state. I am hopeful that the liner on this one wears better than the previous one. So far, so good, one month later.
This is a quality turnout sheet and fits my mare well. Although, the metal hood attachments look like they could be uncomfortable on a horse. I'm thinking of cutting them out?
I bought the medium excalibur color for my horse and while it fits well ( a bit snug actually), it is constantly damp inside. Even when I hang it out to dry inside the warm tack room it never full dries out. My horse is outside 24/7 with a shelter and its important that he is dry and warm. The hardware is also rusting and I have only had it a couple of months.
This blanket has now made it through it's second winter with me... hardly. The actual blanket itself is wonderful, no rips, tears or snags to be found on it. Even the trim is still perfectly intact! It's also been a great fit and doesn't slip at all. However, the hardware is in pretty rough shape and is bent and rusting on two of the t-locks despite good care. One of the front closures has actually come completely unstitched for a second time now (after being restitched professionally), although it still stays quite snug with just one front closure on.
The tail strap attachment ripped off within 3 weeks of first use. One minute it was fine, the horse had a perfectly normal roll, and then it was dangling. Horseware blankets have been my go-to since the 1990s, and I have some that are 10+ years old and still useable. In the past few years I've heard of a lot of quality issues though (mostly waterproofing but also weird sizing). Unfortunately I'm thinking I will have to try some different brands going forward. It's unacceptable to have such weak stitching on a horse product that it fails almost immediately with normal use.
I actually got this in the sheet and heavy weight about 2 years ago. They made it through the first winter with only minimal damage but both we're completely destroyed during only the 2nd winter I used them. My barn turns out the horses in individual paddocks during the day and at night they are in stalls, so these blankets really didn't have a hard life. My horse managed to get out of them frequently, even in his stall. Also the heavy weight was literally ripped to shreds one night while my horse was in his stall. Pretty disappointed overall. Go with another brand.
Bought this sheet based on good reviews of the brand. The lining is very thin. Ripped the first time it was worn. Has multiple rips and it has only been worn several times. The outside has survived so far. Will not buy again.
