Better than expected!

Lindz325 August 16, 2018

Based on the reviews I didn't expect to have these forever. I've had them on my young mare for a month and the worst that's happened is one of the back bones started to come out. She has little legs so it's not really necessary anyways. They look super cute and the Velcro is holding up really well. They also don't make her legs sweat. If you're on the fence, I would make the leap!

Well fitting and secure

CloverRunFarm September 26, 2018

These fly boots hold their shape and stay up well. They can stay on for extended periods of time without irritating the legs and hold up well in the washer.

Nice fly boots

IrishMelody May 29, 2018

Purchased after seeing how a friend's worked for her. These boots have some nice features such as a more contoured fit, really strong velcro, and plastic stays in the back so they stand up better without too much scrunching down. The cob size fits my girl's 15h well boned legs very well, I don't notice a lot of sand or debris getting in the boots and because the bugs can't get to her skin to bite her, she is stomping a lot less. I am using them in FL and will say they do hold a bit of heat, my mare is stocking up a bit during the day wearing these, so there are some tradeoffs. I try to readjust them at least daily on her legs, they don't rub but sometimes shift around if she is particularly active in her field. She has worn them through rain storms and they dry pretty quickly on her legs, so I am not too too worried about rain rot or cannon crud with them.

They stay on!

giddyupstew August 11, 2019

I bought these for my sensitive warmblood gelding who hates flies. He loves them! They stay up and the Velcro doesn't come open. I noticed that 1 boot the binding is starting to come undone that holds the stiffening plastic, the other 3 are holding well. I wish things for horses were better constructed to last longer.

They Stay Up

Kaitlyn July 25, 2019

I got these because my horse was losing his mind stomping and kicking at flies in his stall. The plastic spine along the back does help them stay up and keep their shape. Once you figure out how tight to get them on they dont move around too much. They will twist slightly but because of their shape they wont spin. They seem a light enough material that his legs dont get too hot either. I dont turn him out in them because I dont trust him to not rip them off or get them twisted with the plastic spine digging into his leg. But that's more of Louie problem.

Decent

Martine July 8, 2019

I've literally ordered every pair of fly boots that Smartpak sells. These are decent- but the plastic that's sewn in to hold them upright will pop out through the bottom- irritating your horses foot. Also I find I have to overlap the Velcro quite a bit on my stoutly built 15.1 hh QH

Dissappointed

Ajss June 30, 2014

I ordered these for my mare who had cellulitis and needed her wound covered and protected from flies. I have used fly boots on my gelding over the years, and although the regular thinner fly boots worked on her, I thought these boots would be softer and more comfortable for her. I was really excited when they arrived, because the material is soft & breathable, and I have grown to love all of the Amigo/Rambo products-- unfortunately I was disappointed when I tried them on. She's a 16.2 hand tb/warmblood x, and the horse size boots were way too big. I had to use the front boots on the back legs, and at first I thought the metal band that goes down the back of the leg to hold the boot up would be helpful, it ended up bending into an odd shape when the whole boot slid down- I assume due to the fact that the boots stretch. I tried to help the boots stay up by tightening the Velcro straps, but they still slipped down and when I found them they were scary tight on her fetlocks . I will definitely go back to the old tried-and-true fly wraps in the future. They have gotten really good reviews, but they definitely did not work for me and my horse.

Bought two pair, returned both

Anata June 18, 2014

Living in FL, near the Ocala National Forest, our horses are bothered by more kinds of insects than many other locations. Thought using fly boots would reduce the fly spray we need to use to keep the horses comfortable. These boots failed us on several points: #1 - they are lined and that makes the horse's legs hot and sweaty #2 - because they are lined, they retain moisture and keep the horse's leg wet, unacceptable. # - to keep the boots in the proper place you have to pull the Velcro VERY tight, MUCH tighter than I felt comfortable doing for something I expect my horse's to wear up to 12 hours a day #4 – even when the Velcro is pulled tight the boots turned 180° and/or slipped down so the horse is waking on the boot #5 – the plastic stays in the back of the boot are not sufficient I returned these boots and am exchanging them for another brand that does not have a lining and HOPEFULLY will work for us here in FL. The Amigo boots cost more than the other brand for which I am exchanging. The Customer Service Rep at Smart Pak was very helpful in this process. I am usually able to write reviews raving how wonderful a product is…unfortunately, for me, Amigo boots don't fall in that category. I would not recommend them.

PASS

dressage1234 July 11, 2022

I was drawn in by the gorgeous color but after the dirt and muck is on them they turn a gross grey color. I have so many issues with these after ordering them and my horse wearing them for less than a week... they twisted around constantly even with me making them super tight (which I don't recommend doing anyways for obvious reasons), the boning/ribbing to give them shape and structure was already popping out in some spots, and once they turned/twisted it messed up the boning/ribbing and I couldn't rebend it back. The only pro to these is they did wash nicely and come back (somewhat) to the pretty lavender color. I would pass on these for the price. Luckily after talking to an amazing rep (Sara R.) they are allowing me to return them.
