I instantly fell in love with these three stories about the women who help deliver babies, all the while looking for love themselves. Bundles of Blessings by Amy Clipston Kristina Byler is a young widow, who after unexpectedly helping her sister to deliver a baby, decides to pursue Midwifery. Things were going great until her ex-boyfriend shows up, bringing memories flooding back. Bundles of Blessings is a great story of love, communication, and forgiveness. A Midwife for Susie by Shelley Sheppard Gray After a terrible accident, Joanna returns to her hometown, having sworn off Midwifery for life. When her best friend's sister needs a midwife, she refuses. As Dwight continues to work on changing her mind, she learns that we don't always understand God's plans, and that sometimes the greatest gifts are the ones who have been there all along. Christmas Cradles by Kelly Long When her aunt goes to spend Christmas with family for one day, Anna volunteers to fill in as midwife for her. As can be expected where babies are concerned, the night turns out to be busy with unexpected labors. Anna must quickly learn to rely on the gruff Asa, finding her true love in the process. The review I have written is voluntary and contains opinions that are entirely my own.
Amish Midwives by Amy Clipston, Shelley Shepard Gray, and Kelly Long contains three heartwarming Amish tales. I enjoyed reading these sweet Amish novellas. I thought they were well-written with charming characters. Each story has a midwife who is considered past her prime (two unmarried and one widow). I liked the midwife theme and the unique way each author presented it. We get to see the role of a midwife in an Amish community. A midwife needs to be knowledgeable about her craft as well as compassionate, organized, and professional. I could not imagine going through a home birth (I needed pain killers). There is humor is each of the stories, but it is especially prevalent in A Midwife for Susie. I laughed at Joannas ineptness in the kitchen and the messes she created. Christmas Cradles is a sweet tale that has snow, Christmas, and beautiful handmade quilts. Bundles of Blessings has two people who once loved each other getting a second chance. I was quickly drawn into Amy Clipstons appealing Amish story. Her characters and storyline are appealing. I was happy there was an epilogue that nicely wrapped up the novella. There are discussion questions for each short story. Amish Midwives is one of those books that provides a delightful break from real life. Amish Midwives contains three inspiring and emotional tales that will touch your heart.
