Anna (DVD)

Love this movie, great buy

good action and strong plot.

This is a Luc Besson film so forget about verisimilitude and just enjoy the action. My only critique which applies to most Cold War films: where did the film makers get the idea that Russians are somehow really grubby and greasy looking? Even Russian auto mechanics grew up using banyas which are the Russian form of the Finnish sauna. Most look like they spend all their time at medical spas.

This is EXACTLY the type of movie that I like , just when you think the movie is going to go one way , it does a flip flop and goes the other way , go figure . would I buy this movie again ? Yes and No , if I didn't have it , then Yes , but now that I have it , No , i don't need to .

Pros: The back-and-forth in time scenes in this film would be something that I would normally find a tad annoying but it is done so cleverly here that it adds to the film's appeal. Sasha Luss is good in her acting debut and her etherial beauty is mesmerizing. This film's high-stakes espionage plot, engaging storyline, personal conflicts, riveting action scenes and suspenseful narrative are fairly effective. The ending has a unique and unexpected twist - Anna M proves to be smarter at self-preservation than the American and Russian agencies gave her credit for (no spoilers.) Cons: Anna seems too scrawny to be able to pull off some of the fight scenes which by themselves are implausible. Also, the sex scenes between Anna, her CIA and KGB male handlers and her boyfriend are over-the-top slam-bang, animalistic and GROSS. Yet in sharp contrast, the so-called lesbian relationship between Anna and model Maude is only implied with not even so much as a kiss. Worst yet, Anna seems disinterested and has a depressed-like frown on her face whenever she's around Maude who is sweet and very likable. I don't get it - seems like it was thrown in the storyline gratuitously in my opinion. However this was an overall well-crafted and acted film -Recommend.

A really good spy/action/thriller. It has its slow moments but the action scenes are impressive.

Started out boring got better than boring boring boting.
