Better than previous version
Better than previous version. I have the one with only the touchpad-this one gives you an up-down-left-right option as well as dragging your finger across a touchpad.I have used it about a month now and I love it.

Much improved Remote
Nice to have straightforward on/off button for elderly user. Previous remote mystified my Mom. Much improved remote. Unfortunately Apple only allows one remote per Apple TV so the old remote is worthless. C'mon Apple.

Easier to hold
Much better than the original remote as far as ease of use. The old remote was slippery and it was hard to tell if it was right side up because the whole front was black.
