Out of all the brands out there, this is the one I buy, always hoping Walmart is not out of stock. Taste is really good, and not too salty. Protein value is good. These are always lean cuts. Slices are a good thickness for any type of sandwich, or sliced up in an omelette. I so appreciate the simple and natural ingredients without added nitrates (just naturally from the celery salt) or other preservatives. It is a bit more in price over the other brands for the size (7 oz), but taste and quality is more important. For this size package (7 oz), Walmart beats the competition hands-down.
I really enjoy this ham on cold sandwiches, hot sandwiches and chopped up for omelettes. I'm sure it would be good on pizza too. I appreciate the fact that it doesn't have that horrible smoke flavor that some hams have. Because I get migraines from smoke flavoring sometimes it's hard to find pork products that I can tolerate but this is very nice.
We used this to add to our deli subs from Walmart. I went to hide some of the leftover meat for myself so it would not get eaten up before I could get more, but I was too late. Either someone had already devoured it or they had the same idea I had. I'll be smarter and quicker next time.
I pay a little more for Applegate Naturals Black Forest Uncured Ham because recent headlines about cancer risks linked to certain curing ingredients in processed deli meats concerned me. This one is made without added synthetic nitrites or artificial preservatives, which makes it feel like a cleaner choice compared to other options. Beyond that, it simply tastes good. The flavor is balanced, not overly salty, and it has a clean, straightforward ham taste. I like to keep it on hand for quick, protein-rich breakfasts or snacks. I'll often make a simple ham and cheese roll-up first thing in the morning before coffee or anything sweet that could spike my blood sugar. With 12g of protein per serving, it's convenient for keto or anyone trying to prioritize protein without extra prep.
I really like that this product doesn't have nitrites and is a healthier deli meat option for my family. Especially with recent study that said consuming deli meat with nitrites are as harmful as smoking for the body. The meat falls apart easy and can make separating the slices difficult. Expensive option but worth it at this time in our health journey.
This ham tastes really fresh and has a clean, natural flavor. It's not too salty and feels like a healthier option compared to other deli meats. The texture is good and it works great for sandwiches or quick snacks. Overall, a high-quality product that I would buy again.
Bought for my spouse and he stated this was much better than other prepackaged ham. The slices are about medium thickness - so if you are looking for thin slices, look at others. Not too much fast, and no gristle. Overall for the taste, and price we will continue to purchase.
This was more like a thicker breakfast cut instead of sandwich cut. Therefore less slices for sandwiches, and the cut had a lot of fat marble in them and weren't as lean looking as Oscar Meyer Black Forest uncured. Probably won't buy again unless it's the only choice for uncured ham.
Applegate is a standby for quality meats. They do not use nitrates and always have consistently high quality. The only reason I rated at 4 stars is that it could have a more robust flavor for Black Forest ham, and the prices are always way up there. But I will continue to buy Applegate because it is as close to "clean" meat as you are going to find commercially.
You know, there are a lot of groups out there that say pork is bad and all of that which I usually don't pay attention to. however, this must be what they're talking about. Completely untouched allegedly, like this is pork must really not be good because this tastes absolutely terrible. The thickness was fine, as in not very, which is good. The flavor was just, you know when you eat a piece of meat and you can't tell if it's still good to eat or bad to eat ? I gave it to my cat. Would not be buying again it reminds me of why I stopped eating their turkey because it tasted like tuna for some reason.
